Stopped into the Best Buy South loop in Chicago— I ordered head so I wouldn’t have to wait in line or shop around. I knew what I wanted. I used PayPal to finance my purchase, so it would be cheaper today. Although I ordered ahead, I had to wait in line because they were doing all of their returns first rather than focusing on the line that was starting behind me. Kept getting moved around even after my cashier was grabbing my items. Highly frustrating. Anyway. I got my items, and got home to set it up. It’s a pain to set up with OBS. not going to lie. The elgato app doesn’t do much and is for recording actual footage and this model atleast does not let you record audio. You need to troubleshoot every time you boot on OBS. deleting the audio profile to program it from elgato again and then monitor your audio in the settings. It’s very repetitive. It only helped me play my switch and being able to get my output to my laptop to my monitor. Now I can shiny hunt for my friends on discord with this elgato software and technology. It’s very niche and something I wish I had a long time ago.

This was the best upgrade to my set up no lag good quality and was easy to set up. Now my son can stream his games like he always wanted to

The reason I buy this capture because you can do live on TikTok or other platforms for 144fps pass through if you have monitors 2k like me I have one monitor 2k.And like so much this capture also if you use cable chat-link is so. Perfect the audio

The only thing I recommend is buying a audio capture to in you want to get quality audio and no problem with headphones and obs

It works! I purchased this capture card for nintendo switch game play recording. Im using it to create video game content. Please note, that if you are using this for an ipad, you must get a multi port with atleast 2 usb- c ports, one for power and one for data transfer. This capture card uses the ipad for power. Im getting about an hour of video capture per full ipad charge on my current setting, using camo studio app.

I bought this for the simple fact of streaming my console to pc, but unexpectedly it runs very well even when I’m just playing games on it. All in a though I think if you don’t want to per say buy another monitor, this works just as well.

Very simple setup was a little confused at first but the instructions were clear , I did end up returning as I needed the version above this for the higher pass through options worked on my PlayStation 5 perfectly though

So these capture cards used to be a bit of a necessity just a couple of years ago if you wanted to capture your gameplay and upload it to popular video platforms for others to watch. Majority of consoles and PC’s have some sort of game capture feature built in now, but they all have some sort of limitations. This is where having the Elgato 4K S comes in very handy if you want to share long play videos on YouTube or other sites. It is compatible with just about every console, as long as it has an hdmi output. (More on that in a bit). But this Elgato external capture card makes it extremely easy to use. It is literally plug and play. No drivers needed. The only thing you’ll need to download is the Elgato capture app on your iPad, Mac or Windows PC. It is compatible with OBS for live streaming, but I strictly used it for capturing gameplay for later editing and uploading. What I really love about this Elgato is that it is compatible with my iPad. Being able to connect this to an iPad to play and capture without any latency is awesome. This means I don’t have to set up next to a huge desktop or cumbersome laptop. I just set my iPad next to me or near my TV and connect it. With the Elgato capture app, you can adjust resolution , frame rate and audio settings on the fly for your screen captures. It is so quick and convenient to set up. I mainly used it to record my Nintendo switch 2 gameplay. I was able to record 4K 60 footage with the Nintendo switch 2 with this. Footage looks high res, crisp and no issues with sound. The capture card also has an aux input on the front end so that you can record yourself speaking. My only complaint about this box is that for some reason it is real finicky to use with a PS5. And for the life of me I could not figure out why. Sometimes it would work, but for the most part it just refused to find an input signal. I think it’s the PS5’s fault. I turned off HDCP and even so it didn’t work sometimes. Tried turning off VRR, HDR, ALLM, changed resolutions.. everything. And it still wouldn’t find an input signal. Finally when I was about to give up trying to connect my PS5, it just started working. I don’t even know what I did to make it work. But when I finally Got it going with my PS5, I had to lower the recording resolution to 1080P and 60fps to record. This thing will not record PS5 in 4K 120hz, and i suppose depending on the game you are playing, it wouldn’t record my PS5 in 4K 60hz mode. Which is strange because I was able to record my switch 2 gameplay in 4K 60 fps. I was playing battlefield 6. I have it set to performance mode for that game, so I’m assuming it lowers the resolution to 1440p for that game, so I had to lower record resolution in the Elgato app. I am going to blame Sony for it. Because it worked perfectly fine with my switch 2. Perhaps Elgato can release a firmware update to make it work better in the near future. Either way, I am quite pleased with it. I love that I can record footage straight onto my iPad Pro with it. It makes editing and uploading gameplay so much easier and quicker. If you are looking for an easy to use capture card for gameplay footage, I think you will love this one.

The Elgato 4K-S Capture Card rocks. It lacks some of the technical features of the 4K-X, but for streamers on a budget or those wanting to show off footage from their Nintendo Switch 2, the 4K-S manages to hit that sweet spot in terms of price and functionality. Whether I was streaming to a PC or an iPad, I was impressed with the quality of the passthrough and the recordings. This is an easy recommendation for anyone wanting to stream game capture footage from Switch 2 and a compelling recommendation for PC and PS5 gamers wanting a separate capture option. All-in-all, it is hard not to be impressed. Unboxing: Inside the box you will find an HDMI-2.0 cable, a USB-C cable, and the capture device. The capture card itself is spartan with an analog audio input on the front and HDMI-in, USB-C, and HDMI-out on the back. Experience: If the capture card is hooked up with input / output HDMI and a USB-C power source, your display will turn on, and you will have audio and video passthrough. To capture you will need to download software from Elgato for your device of choice. I evaluated on PC and an Apple iPad. There did not appear to be a capture software option for Android devices at the time of my testing. This is my first dedicated capture card. Prior to this, I used built-in streaming options whenever I would stream from X-Box. Switch 2 is limited in its capture and stream options making the 4K-S a perfect case study. I had some concerns about latency since so many Switch 2 games are platformers, but in my time with the card, I did not notice any input lag or latency. Users wondering about the differences between the 4K-S and the 4K-X should know that the 4K-X supports higher refresh rates in passthrough and capture. The 4K-X also supports HDMI 2.1 whereas the 4K-S is running with HDMI-2.0. Again, those are not typically concerns with a Nintendo Switch 2 but could be more of an issue with more powerful gaming PCs and consoles. Conclusion: This is my first dedicated capture card, and it performs brilliantly. My gaming session captures look great. Set up was easy. The application is simple enough to be functional, but customizable enough to satisfy those who wish to tinker and tweak their captures. This is a slam dunk capture card and easily recommend it to those with a Nintendo Switch 2.

The Game Capture 4K S is a pretty great capture card. I have used the likes of BirdDog and Avermedia capture boxes for production use but this Game Capture 4K S is one of the best UVC capture boxes I’ve used. I've been using it with my Sony a1 at 60fps, and it works out pretty darn great, and the quality is absolutely stunning—crisp 4K60 capture that makes every frame look pretty good, so there’s a good chip in there doing the encode/decode. My simple syncing measurements show it to be fairly fast with low latency. It’s definitely faster than my original Avermedia, slightly faster than my Avermedia Ultra, and slightly slower than my BirdDog 4K going into OBS. If you haven’t tested sync live, I suggest you do it for your setup; Just YouTube it. Setup was a easy—just plug and play with USB-C, no drivers needed because it’s UVC. It works flawlessly on Windows and connects to practically any The HDR10 passthrough up to 4K60 keeps colors looking good, and it even supports HDR (which I can’t test! Yikes!) The compact size is great. It’s about the size of an oversized card deck and twice as heavy, so it fits easily in my anvil case without taking up too much more gear space. I also appreciate the 3.5mm analog audio input, which lets me capture voice chat directly from my headset for cleaner audio in streams. Although in my wildest dreams, it would also have XLR, but I’m a dreamer. The Elgato Studio software is light duty and easy to use, and it integrates seamlessly with OBS and Streamlabs. I was able to successfully connect it to my Tricaster, but I’m not sure how I did it. And that’s the worst thing about this capture box. I can’t change the name of the box via USB so if you get several of these boxes for multi-input setups, you’ll need to guess which one is which. ELGATO are you HEARING ME ABOUT THIS???? For anyone serious about streaming, the Elgato 4K S is an awesome professional grade video input card. Just don’t add more than one!

For many years, I’ve been playing Call of Duty: Mobile with a tablet-to-monitor setup. I use the REDMAGIC Gaming Tablet connected to an LG 5K Curved Gaming monitor. It’s a glorious setup, but it took a while to get to the point where I was able to view my game at a 120Hz refresh rate to the external monitor. At this point in time, I can play at 2K resolution 144Hz refresh rate. I’ve never done much recording of my gameplay, but decided that I wanted to branch out into it. I had some experience with the Elgato HD60X, but I wanted to make sure I could capture with at least 1080p120. So, that’s what led me to the 4K S Capture Card. In order for me to capture my gaming footage, I connected to the Elgato card using the provided USB-C cable to my PC as the capturing device and then I connected to the REDMAGIC tablet using an HDMI-to-USB-C cable. Then, I connected to my monitor using the provided HDMI cable from the capture card. I downloaded the elgato software and my device was recognized automatically. I thought the setup was quick and painless. The capture card worked right out of the box and I didn’t have to worry about installing anything on the tablet in order for it to work. The connections were stable and I thought the video I capture was very clear, even at 4K60. The passthrough keeps gameplay perfectly smooth on the external display, which was something I was concerned about. I’ve tested the 1440p120 and 1080p240 modes, too, and both worked fine without any noticeable lag. It’s impressive that such a compact device can maintain those frame rates without any heat issues. Overall, this is a great choice for anyone who wants clean, high-frame video capture without extra complexity. It feels built for creators who want pro results without a bulky rig.

The Corsair Elgato Game Capture 4K S arrived well boxed and out the box it is compact and it does not take a lot of space. It is easy to connect too. It comes with an USB C cable and an HDMI cable that come in very handy, Elgato is also nicely portable and it does not take much space when in use. It has the usbc input, hdmi in and hdmi out, that simple and easy yet it does a great job. I really like what it does and how well it does it too, it offers high quality video while gaming. It offers a smooth gameplay, it does not slow down, and I cannot tell the difference when its recording. The software is easy to use, and it can capture stills as well as records. And it can be customized to whatever I am doing. Overall I really like El gato because it does not affect the frame rate or performance when its recording. The software is easy to use and can be customized to one's liking, and it provides high quality recording without investing a lot more on my PC which that would have been the other option, I'm glad i got it.

I’m not a content creator necessarily, but I’ve always been interested in the idea of being able to record and review my gameplay. I’ve just never been sure if it made any sense for my use case. I still can’t really answer that question for myself but it is definitely fun to have the option now in a way that is super easy to use and works very well. Elgato is a household name amongst creators and needs no introduction. They have a reputation for making the best products for online content. The Game Capture 4K S is intended to be an easy solution for capturing footage from consoles. I didn’t know much about these before getting one and didn’t realize it wasn’t a stand alone device. It requires a computer or iPad to operate and record to, but the rest is just an HDMI 2.0 in and out. Unfortunately that fact leaves it only capable of 4K/60 at maximum and only gets HDR on a Windows PC. Still good, but that is a limitation. The other issue is I imagined it would be plug and play with the consoles but that isn’t entirely the case as to actually record you have to have another device involved. That can be a PC, Mac, or even an iPad but it does require something on top of the console for recording duties. I tried it out on my PC first and it wasn’t immediately apparent how to get it setup at since there isn’t even a quick start guide included in the box. I just had to go to the internet to figure it out. Even then I wasn’t sure what software from the Elgato website I actually needed. Eventually I determined what I needed was Elgato Studio and thankfully the rest was easy. A quick firmware update, and moving the window for the recording to a different screen so it wouldn’t have an infinite loop going, and I was ready to go. Recording is easy, and editing it down to a good clip is as well. When running it directly on my gaming laptop it does drain significant resources leaving a noticeable impact on the quality of my game. So, I then pulled out my iPad. To use an iPad it does have to have USB-C, but after the app download you can offload the recording work to the iPad and free up the PC. I think using my iPad is also the simplest way to run on my PS5 or Switch 2 as well. The only limitation then becomes memory and battery life as far as recording times go. The fun thing about using my iPad is it saves the video clips to my iCloud and then it’s accessible on my other iOS devices. A big negative about the iPad setup is that in order to charge my iPad I have to unplug the Elgato, and then the HDMI pass through stops working since it is no longer powered. Overall this is a great entry level capture card that is easy to use and while it requires other hardware to use, it can be minimal particularly for the typical gamer. It isn’t quite perfect but I think it’s an extremely reasonable option for anyone looking for a start in content creation or just to have a way to record their own gaming escapades.
