ELV1S 30 #1 Hits is a 2002 greatest hits collection of songs by rock 'n' roll icon Elvis Presley that reached #1 on the Australian, United Kingdom and United States albums charts. The album is the first Elvis Presley album to feature the remix of InchA Little Less ConversationInch by Junkie XL that was released earlier in the year and reached #1 in the UK and Australia. This style of compilation, dovetailing #1 hits from the two largest record markets in the world, was inspired by the Beatles' 1, which had become a worldwide hit in 2000. Conversely, the latter album had been somewhat inspired by Presley's The Number Ones Hits, released thirteen years earlier, in 1987. The Number One Hits was, in fact, the first compilation of number one hits by any single artist or band released on LP or CD in any country in the world. When released, ELV1S 30 #1 Hits was an instant success, going straight to the top of the albums charts in several countries and shipping mass quantities around the world. Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
