Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas - BluRay [Blu-ray]

This was a nice Christmas treat. I saw this on HBO when I was a kid. It was recorded to VHS and I saw it many times. Over the years the tape went by the wayside. 10 years ago I purchased the DVD, having forgotten about the show. My daughter fell in love with the show instantly and 3 years later so did my son. It was a great DVD, but I thought I remembered Kermit the Frog introducing it. The DVD did not have this. When I saw it was available on Blu Ray with the restored version I had to have it. Not only did they restore the Kermit scenes there were other scenes restored as well. It arrived 1 week before Christmas and I think we watched it 5 times. If you haven't seen this, well...you've missed out. Drop what you are doing and get it now!

When my mom passed away we found an old VHS with a compilation of Christmas favorites that we watched as kids. I spent a lot of money to have the VHS converted to DVD and was happy to watch it. Unfortunately time had not been kind so we were unable to watch all of this movie. I ordered it via Best Buy a few days ago and expected in in the coming days. I was pleasantly surprised to find it in the mail today. I showed my brother what I bought and he was skeptical and hoping it’s not a fancy new remake. We want to see all of the strings as we watch! Luckily it’s not. Bring on Christmas! I know I’m a bit early but this is putting me in the spirit. I’m very pleased so far!

Considering the source material (shot on video in the 70's), this is the best copy you're going to get of this right now. Upgrade from the 2 DVD versions. And this one, thankfully, gives you the option of watching it in the original square screen presentation of the original broadcast (black on sides) or stretched to fit a widescreen tv. I recommend the original square presentation because it looks the best you're going to get. Of course, still expect limitations in the picture due to the original source material. I'm glad I updated!

This was my favorite Christmas movie growing up, and I was thrilled to see it come out on this DVD! It's the best, most wholesome movie to show around the holidays for your kids (or for you kids at heart). The extra features are fun to go through, too. You get to see just how amazing this piece was, being the earlier of Jim Hensen's work. If you like the Muppets, Jim Hensen, or pretty much anything good in life, do yourself a favor and get this. And also, the music is incredible!

I loved this holiday classic growing up. It is an adaptation of the gift of the magi and is very well done. The tale is heartwarming and transcends time. It is a good family movie with great muppet work and music. The video transfer is pretty good and looks and sounds good for dvd format.
