About this product
The practice of composing for two keyboard instruments, very common in the illustrious Bach family, naturally achieved it's apotheosis with Johann Sebastian, whose three concertos for two harpsichords are performed here by Olivier Fortin and Emmanuel Frankenberg with the Ensemble Masques. These works, particularly the concertos in C minor, are among the composer's most admired. They suggest a conception of the concerto specific to Bach rather than a dialogue between several individual entities, the piece presents a subtle intertwining of melodic lines and blurs the distinction between solo and tutti parts by making them respond to and quote each other, thus illustrating the principle of harmony dear to the composer. Finally, the recording on two harpsichords of the Prelude and Fugue BWV 552, originally composed for organ, is in keeping with the nineteenth-century tradition of transposing Bach's works with the aim of giving their refined polyphony greater clarity.

Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' Strathclyde Concertos, all premiered by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, are among his most significant contributions to the concerto genre. Concerto No. 3 for Horn and Trumpet marks a turning point in the cycle of ten concertos by employing multiple soloists, and stands in the lineage of works by Haydn, Mozart and Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. Concerto No. 4 explores the clarinet's lyrical Mozartian heritage, alongside subtle percussive effects and agile virtuosity.

2016 EP. Haunted continues to move ahead with the songwriting and sound templates Desario laid out on Red Returns. They've maintained the tight arrangements and hooks of it's predecessor, reminiscent of classic Britpop, shoegaze and indie but with an even grittier edge. Emphasizing on capturing the band's live sound and energy in the studio, Desario, again, chose to team up with veteran recording engineer Tony Cale working the controls. The lone exception being a contemporary adaptation of The House of Love's early hit, 'Nothing To Me', recorded by Michael Yoas. Even more raw, stripped down and dirtier than Red Returns, Haunted still features the dual guitar and rhythm-section based approach that has been synonymous with Desario in recent years, drawing the attention of indie fans and critics alike. We have wanted to record Bach's violin concertos with Sophie Gent ever since she joined Ensemble Masques in 2003, says Olivier Fortin, harpsichordist and founder of the ensemble that explores Baroque music with such passion. InchSophie is an exceptional musician with an extremely convincing, honest and unpretentious styleInch. Another pillar of the group is Kathleen Kaji, who is the soloist for Telemann's viola concerto. InchTelemann is a fantastic storyteller,Inch she says, Inchwho provides a plot, characters, costumes and props - and leaves you to put it all togetherInch. Two sinfonie by Albinoni link the concertos and shine a spotlight on each musician in the ensemble.
