A: I would be VERY wary of Epson's continued support with drivers and other software. I purchased a v550 two years ago and there is no longer any viable support on Linux for it. NONE of the drivers recommended on Epson's page for Linux work. Either dependencies are not met or Linux blames Epson and Epson blames Linux (essentially). My brother just purchased a V850 and after some work I was able to get it running on his Windows 10 computer. The bundled software included (2021) dates from 2014! These are/were both top-rated budget level film capable scanners. If you don't believe me Google "V550 no longer working" or "Epson scanner no longer supported" you'll be glad you did.
A: Hello Rick. Yes, you can scan photos with the Epson WorkForce ES-400. However, this scanner was designed for scanning documents, so the scan quality will be lower compared to scanned images from the Epson Perfection V550.
