A: With the 3-inch pipe you will be looking at about 7 inches down from the ceiling. I am looking at the mount and I don’t know how you could get it flush without the pipe. I’ll attach a picture so you can see how mine looks.
A: I've had mine hooked up for 4 days now with no noticeable issues. I've been checking daily since I had the same concerns but so far so good.
Q: will this work with the Epson HC 4000?
A: Yes, I am currently in the process of installing this mount with my Epson Home Cinema 4000 projector. I attached the bracket to the projector two days ago and am waiting on an HDMI cable that I ordered to mount to ceiling. The mount does really well as it can be configured a multitude of ways to fit pretty much any mounting pattern that a projector may have so no issues there. The only thing is that this mount is only rated to hold 25lbs and the HC 4000 weighs like 23lbs so it's a bit close for comfort but should be totally fine. I'd recommend this mount since I'm going to mount mine with confidence that it won't fall on my head while I sit under it.
