About this product

First released in 1999, Temperamental is the ninth studio album from Everything But the Girl - the best-selling UK duo formed in 1982 by singer-writer-musicians Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt - and arrives in a new 23-track deluxe CD reissue edition featuring additional remixes and extra tracks.Often seen as a companion piece to it's million-selling predecessor Walking Wounded, the album went on to sell over 500,000 copies worldwide, including the Billboard Dance Chart #1 single, Five Fathoms, and further cemented the duo's reputation for skilfully fusing the worlds of modern electronica and ardent pop songwriting. The album was recorded in north London at the duo's home studio in the summer of 1998 with two tracks ending up as production collaborations Blame, made with drum 'n' bass DJ-producer Jamie Spratling (J Majik) at his studio in Hertfordshire; and The Future of the Future, which began life as an instrumental by Washington DC deep house producers, Deep Dish before Watt wrote a melody and lyrics for Thorn to sing.Yet it was not without it's complications. After the birth of the pair's twins in early 1998, Thorn chose to focus much of her time on family life. Watt produced a lot of the album's music, and the pair could often only get together at night when the house was quiet to work on vocals and arrangements. If the music is inspired by clubland, the lyrics capture the tension and complexities of competing interior and exterior worlds, of lives lived both inside and outside. The album was acclaimed in many quarters. 'Triumphant after-hours club pop' said Spin in a full-page 9/10 lead review. 'Wide-eyed and wondrous,' commented Time Out. And in a 2019 retrospective feature, The Quietus concluded 'Temperamental may be the most emotionally complex dance long-player of all time'.Mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Miles Showell, the album features the original artwork by

Everything But the Girl - Amplified Heart ( 2026 Deluxe Edition ) - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

First released in June 1994, Amplified Heart is the seventh studio album from Everything But the Girl - the best-selling UK duo formed in 1982 by singer-writer-musicians Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt - and arrives in a new 31-track deluxe CD reissue edition featuring additional B-sides and extra tracks.Amplified Heart went on to sell over a million copies and was acclaimed on it's for it's candour and affecting intimacy (InchThe results are, to a song, high qualityInch MOJO; InchCaptures expertly the fragmentary confusing nature of emotional ructionInch INDEPENDENT; InchTheir newest album, and possibly their bestInch NEW YORK TIMES). It also contains the original version of what was to become the band's biggest hit, Missing. If Todd Terry's famous house remix took Missing onto the world's dance floors and global pop charts in 1995 (#2 on US Billboard Hot 100; #1 on US Billboard Hot 100 Airplay; #3 on the UK Top 40; #1 in Canada, Germany and Italy), the original version also remains a timeless classic and one that perhaps better reflects the enduring appeal of the album's modern-retro hybrid of ardent folk-soul and scratchy electronica. The genesis of Amplified Heart was anything but easy. Written in the aftermath of Watt's harrowing near-death experience in 1992 from a rare auto-immune disease, the lyrics - written alternately by the duo - are raw unflinching stories of love and isolation in extremity. To anchor the album's heart, the pair turned in part to folk-rock legends Danny Thompson (double bass), Dave Mattacks (drums), and engineer Jerry Boys (Sandy Denny, REM), but also to electronic producer, John Coxon (Spring Heel Jack, Spiritualized) to find the loops and dusty sounds that give the record much of it's underlying atmosphere. There are cameo roles from Richard Thompson on electric guitar (25th December) and veteran string arranger Harry Robinson (I Don't Unders

Everything But the Girl - Walking Wounded ( 2026 Deluxe Edition ) - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

First released in 1996, Walking Wounded is the acclaimed million-selling album from Everything But the Girl - the best-selling UK duo formed in 1982 by singer-writer-musicians Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt - and arrives in a new 29-track deluxe CD reissue edition featuring additional remixes and extra tracks.Walking Wounded peaked at #4 on the UK Album Chart in May 1996 and contains four UK Top 40 singles, including the Top 10 hits Walking Wounded and Wrong. In the process, it set new a benchmark for the intersection of contemporary electronic music and emotional pop songwriting. If the album builds on the folktronica of the duo's previous million-seller, Amplified Heart, it also owes it's sense of adventure to the subsequent success of Amplified Heart's breakout 1995 global hit, Missing (remixed by Todd Terry), and Thorn's 1994 collaboration with Bristol collective, Massive Attack, on their second album, Protection. Inspired by London's burgeoning drum 'n' bass scene, and deep house imports from the US, Watt programmed and produced the bulk of the tracks in the basement of the duo's north London home demo studio using an Akai sampler, a synth and guitar, an inexpensive vocal mic, and an 8-track tape machine. Thorn's lone voice took centre stage, with the future-facing arrangements kept spare and stripped of background vocals. In addition, producer John Coxon (Spring Heel Jack), with whom the duo had worked on Amplified Heart, delivered the backing track for the album's title song, and beats specialist Howie B programmed the groove for Flipside. Everything was then transferred to 2Inch analogue tape and mixed at The Townhouse by Andy Bradfield.Walking Wounded was acclaimed on it's on both sides of the Atlantic. 'The new incarnation of EBTG is the best yet. It's just going to take a while for people to catch up,' said NME. 'A career peak... raw, pure and absolutely gorge

Everything But the Girl - Eden (2026 Deluxe Edition) - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

First released in 1984, Eden is the acclaimed debut album from Everything But the Girl - the best-selling UK duo formed in 1982 by singer-writer-musicians Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt - and arrives in a new 26-track deluxe CD reissue edition featuring additional B-sides and extra tracks.Recorded and mixed over nine days in September 1983 and produced by Robin Millar, Eden spawned the UK Top 40 hit Each And Every One and went on to sell over half a million copies worldwide.Thorn and Watt met at Hull University in 1981 and over the next two years became successful solo artists and songwriters on London indie Cherry Red. Eden signalled a major tag move to Blanco y Negro/Warner and is the merging of the pair's respective worlds. Thorn's unshowy soulful voice and Watt's jazz-folk guitar and latin-flavoured arrangements take centre stage. The sound is sharpened by lyrics that offer both acerbic takedowns and a bittersweet disarming intimacy. The album features a handpicked band including Simon Booth (Weekend, Working Week) on additional guitar, Colombian double-bassist Chucho Merchan, Brazilian percussionist Bosco D'Oliveira, veteran alto saxophonist Peter King, and Charles Hayward from experimental London futurists, This Heat, on drums. Some B-sides from the time were recorded shortly after the Eden sessions. Later tracks from the same year point towards the tighter pop sound the pair were to develop both on the road and on the follow-up album. June Miles-Kingston (Modettes, Fun Boy Three) joins on drums, Phil Moxham (Young Marble Giants) on electric bass, and Johnny Marr guests on harmonica on Native Land. The running order follows the template of the last deluxe edition in 2012, but - with the master tape only recently unearthed - adds the duo's 1983 version of Paul Weller's English Rose, originally recorded for the NME's Racket Packet cassette.Mastered at Abbey Road Studios
