Father Knows Best: Season One - DVD

The history of FATHER KNOWS BEST stretches back to the late 1940s, when the comedy about the family life of insurance salesman Jim Anderson (Robert Young) debuted as a radio show. In 1954 CBS picked up the show and turned it into a hit sitcom that ran until 1960. This includes the entire first season of episodes, which follow the distinctly middle-class lives of Jim, his wife Margaret (Jane Wyatt), and their kids, Betty InchPrincessInch Anderson (Elinor Donahue), James InchBudInch Anderson (Billy Gray), and Kathy InchKittenInch Anderson (Laurin Chapin). Each episode finds the family members slotting into very traditional roles, but Young and the co-creator of the show, Eugene Rodney, would occasionally subvert events to show that, in fact, father doesn't always know best.
