Seiber / London So / Atherton - Ulysses - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Mátyás Seiber's body of work is distinguished by a natural versatility, and by the wide range and eclecticism of his musical interests. It incorporates the successful pop song InchBy the Fountains of RomeInch (1956), which hit the Top 10 on the charts; his score for the animated film Animal Farm (1954); and numerous examples of incidental music for radio and television. Born in Budapest on May 4, 1905, Mátyás Seiber began to learn the cello at the age of ten. He studied composition at the Budapest Academy of Music under Kodály from 1919 to 1924, and in 1925 he entered his Serenade for Wind Sextet in a Budapest competition. When it failed to win the prize, Bartók resigned from the jury in protest! On September 24, 1960 - at the age of 55 - Seiber was killed in a car crash in South Africa during a lecturing tour of the country's universities. At the time of his tragically early death, he was one of the most respected composition teachers in Britain.

Underwater Tiger - Where Miles Become Meaning - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Combining influences from alternative, progressive, and popular music, Where Miles Become Meaning sounds unique yet familiar with layers of contagious melodies and inspiring harmonies. The album opens fast and loud, and keeps the listener involved through all 11 tracks with an array of catchy choruses and intricate verses. The album closes with an emotional impact, all five band members singing in harmony, and a poetic last line 'this has only just begun'. The album was recorded at Pyramid Sound Studios in Ithaca, NY and mastered at Georgetown Masters in Nashville, TN. Underwater Tiger began making alternative rock music in the suburban town of Horseheads, NY when brothers Matt Furstoss (drums, vocals), Anthony Furstoss (guitar), and Ron Furstoss (bass) combined talents with brothers Nate Miner (guitar, vocals), and Andy Miner (guitar) in 2010. The families knew each other in high school, and left their respective bands to create Underwater Tiger after college, drawing upon a variety of alternative and punk influences. Their songs are marked by poetic lyrics, emotionally driven impacts, and catchy intertwining vocal melodies backed by powerful and sometimes dreamlike instrumentals. The band quickly gained local notoriety, raising just under $5,000 via an Indiegogo campaign to shoot a music video in promotion of their first single 'Bones'. In 2012, the band independently released their debut album Where Miles Become Meaning and supported it with a barrage of short tours in the Northeast. In 2013 the band refreshed their writing process, forming the brick and mortar of their upcoming Find the Right Words EP. During the recording process of the EP, guitarist Andy Miner left Underwater Tiger, leaving them to continue on as a quartet. Find the Right Words EP will be released in Fall 2014.
