I got this lens probably for the same reason you're looking into it.. its the cheapest lens sony makes. It takes beautiful pictures and is a great beginer lens. The auto focus isn't the fastest, but the quality of picture if youre patient with it is still suburp.

I wanted an inconspicuous lens to mount on my Sony a73. The G master lenses are very large and draw too much attention and situations where you need to use caution. I recently traveled to a Third World country. I did not feel secure walking freely with a large set up. I bought this lens. The size of the lens and weight allowed me to move freely and capture what I intended without unwanted attention. In a world of dizzying sharpness and fascination with ultra clear images, This lens is not it. However, there is a very likable personality with this 50 mm. This has become my go to street lens.

This is a great lens with excellent build quality for the price when compared to the Zeiss, which takes sharper pictures but it does cost a lot more. I added a picture I took with this lens using my A7II.

If you've done your research, you'll probably know that this lens comes with it's fair share of issues, mainly the autofocus. I decided to purchase this along side my A7 III as I am new to the Sony world. I think it works pretty well most of the time. It occasionally hunts, but nothing that is deal breaking. The pictures are considerably sharp, but there is some vignetting wide open. The wide aperture is very nice though. Note that it can be just a smidge noisy at times. Also not a deal breaker to me.

The optical performance of this lens is very good for the price. I own many Sony A-mount lenses which I have adapted for use on my A7 E mount body. The sensor in the camera performs admirably but the size of the adapted lenses have always seemed large. The great news about this lens is that it's size is much more in proportion to the camera body. The sharpness and bokeh of this lens is impressive. The other choices for 50mm range native E mount lenses are the $1500 Planar, the $1000 Sonnar and $950 Loxia. The performance may not be that of the Zeiss-badged offerings, I bet that the differences would only be noticeable at near-open apertures under great magnification. The only small negative about this lens is that it doesn't auto focus with the lightning quick speed my A-mount SSM lenses do. The update to the latest lens firmware and focusing at a wider aperture helped the auto focus speed noticeably. The 50mm F1.8 will not be beat for the price.

I bought this lens when i bought my camera so i was able to get a cheaper price. I would recommend this lens to anyone. It shoots really good pictures and really gives great background blur effects with my Sony A6000. The images below are RAW photos that have not been edited.

I was reluctant on getting this lens at first because i thought the quality would be similar to the lens kit. After some research and taking a leap of faith, i decided to give this a go. Boy am i glad i did. My pics. turned out stellar. It was much easier to change the depth and contrast. Using less effort, i was able to capture beautiful photos with minimal adjustments. The result are these photos.

For the Sony lineup available, nice lens for the money. Better lenses out there, but I would recommend.

I'm using SEL50F18F with my Sony a5000. I wanted to buy SEL50F18 with optical stabilization and it's for aps-c but it costs more. So, I tried SEL50F18F and it never dissapointed me. I'm not using my camera for videos, so I'm happy with that lens. Good sharp portraits, great bokeh, beautiful colors in low-light.

This is excellent for portraits and you can get some really good shots depending on what you need to use it for. I use mine for mostly nature shots, toys and food. It mounts easily to any Sony cameras with an e-mount, although you can purchase adapters if you want to use it with Alpha mounts or some other brand name camera. Recommended.

Title speaks for itself. This lens provides great background blur. Getting everything into frame can sometimes be a challenge depending on the type of shot you're trying to get. But portraits pretty much come out razor sharp every time.

I use this lens with my a7sii and I am quite impressed! The bokeh is amazing and this allows me to take smooth pictures in low light conditions. I'm no expert but this lens is a must-have in anyone's lens arsenal!

In the rainy/cold month that I have had this lens not much variety of pictures have been taken. Colors seem to pop and renders pretty bokeh. My only compmaint thus far is the auto focus seems to be constantly roaming trying to find something to lock onto. This could be from my new a7ii camera that was purchased at the same time. Once I figure out which piece of equipment is causing this I will update the review. But for the price I am happy! I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money while learning my camera and deciding which lens I want to shell out the big $$$ for.

Its sharp, handles focus just as fast as any other sony lens but thats a given since sony designs all there lenses to perform fast. The only bad things I can say are that if you shoot video, you'll need external audio source since the lens is noisy while focusing. Not super loud, but enough for the in camera audio to pick it up. The other thing is you get some chromatic Abberation from f1.8 to like f2.8 or f3.5 but now adays you can set a preset in your editing software to remove CA anyway so not a big deal. No time loss there. Great budget lens.

This is an amazing lens for the Sony e mount system. It's the first full-frame lens I've owned and I LOVE IT. The value of this lens cannot be understated. For the price, you're getting a lens that is quite versatile, even though it's a fixed 50MM prime. The bokeh you can get with this lens is often STUNNING. I bought it for my A6000 and it's a wonderful addition. I have included a wonderful sunset shot I achieved with this lens.

This is a great starter lens for anyone wanting to either move from the kit lens or bought the camera just the body. It’s Sony’s nifty fifty and it lives up to the hype. One note: it does not have optical steady shot so make sure your body is internally stabilized for beat results. I am using it on an A7 which is not stabilized but still get great results. Just have to know your cameras limitations.

As other reviews said there is a bit of noise while on auto focus but there is no shake. Otherwise it’s great for the price

Images are crisp! Super sharp. For the money you can't beat it! Great for portraits!

for the money its a very good lens ... its slow on focusing .. but you get good photos .. realy good for blurry backgrounds....

Focusing is a little slow but this lens shoots beautiful at night!! My portraits are fire with this lens!
