Fenella Humphreys - Richter: Recomposed - Vivaldi The Four Seasons - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Wilhelm Furtwängler - Furtwangler Conducts Mozart [COMPACT DISCS] date 07/30/2002

Max Richter's The Recomposed Four Seasons has become an iconic piece. Richter discarded about three quarters of Vivaldi's original and substituted his own music. The new version sounds a little hipper, lighter on it's feet in places, darker and more cinematic in others. Artfully, but faithfully, Richter rearranges the notes on the page, revealing anew the radiant melodies and rich timbres of the music. This new recording enjoys the flamboyant fantasy and the technical prowess of Daniel Rowland as solo violin.

Fenella Humphreys turned time spent in lockdown to good use preparing this fascinating and eclectic program of caprices. A collection ranging from Paganini to a wide selection of contemporary composers, some of whom contribute not only individual works, but who joined together for a splendid composite set of variations on Paganini's famous 24th caprice. With notes on their music by the composers, and comments on Paganini, Kreisler, and Bacewicz by Fenella, this is a personal, daring and exciting album of dazzling virtuosity.
