First Reformed - DVD

Aging minister Ernst Toller (Ethan Hawke) subsumed a lifetime's regrets in his quiet shepherding of a historic but fading small-town church. However, when a pregnant parishioner (Amanda Seyfried) sought special counsel for her environmentally conscious and despondent husband (Brian Ettinger), the reticent reverend might meet his own dangerous crisis of faith. Engrossing return to form for writer-director Paul Schrader co-stars Cedric the Entertainer, Michael Gaston, Victoria Hill. 113 min. Standard; Soundtrack English.

Remember tells the story of Zev Guttman (Academy Award (R) Winner Christopher Plummer), a 90-year-old struggling with memory loss who is living out his final years in a serene retirement home. A week following the death of his beloved wife Ruth, he suddenly gets a mysterious package from his close friend Max (Academy Award (R) Winner Martin Landau), containing a stack of money and a letter detailing a shocking plan. Both Zev and Max were prisoners in Auschwitz, and the same sadistic guard was responsible for the death of both their families-a guard who, immediately after the war, escaped Germany and has been living in the U.S. ever since under an assumed identity. Max is wheelchair-bound but in full command of his mental faculties; with his guidance, Zev will embark on a cross-continental road-trip to bring justice once and for all to the man who destroyed both their lives.

A teenager (Christopher Collet, the Manhattan Project) and his kid brother (Corey Haim, in his film debut) spar with their mother's shady new boyfriend (Peter Weller, Robocop) in this dramatic thriller from veteran British director Michael Apted (Gorky Park). Teri Garr (Mr. Mom) stars as the young divorced mother, trying to balance her relationship with her kids and her drifter boyfriend. The boys think they see the man for what he is and need to somehow save their mother from his clutches. The stellar cast includes future superstars Robert Downey Jr.. and Sarah Jessica Parker.
