Michael Radford (IL POSTINO) brings an artful touch to Edward Anderson's screenplay with FLAWLESS, a serious account of a remarkable heist at London Diamond, one of the world's premier diamond holders. Set in 1960s London, the film focuses on Laura Quinn (Demi Moore), a woman so driven she's chosen career over personal life and found her way into the boys' club known as the diamond business. As Laura gets overlooked for a manager position year after year, she resolves to work even harder, hoping that, despite her history, her efforts will one day pay off. Ironically, it's Mr. Hobbs (Michael Caine), a night janitor, who takes note of Laura's frustration. The seemingly simple Mr. Hobbs finds a way to use this to his advantage, proposing a plan that will only work with Laura's cooperation. 1960s London Demi Moore is Laura Quinn, a bright and driven executive at the London Diamond Corporation who finds herself discouraged as male colleagues are repeatedly promoted ahead of her despite her greater experience. Michael Caine is Hobbs, the equally overlooked nighttime janitor with an intimate knowledge of the security - and a score to settle with the Corporation. Sensing Laura's frustration, he convinces her to help pull off an ingenious heist.
When the once highly decorated police officer Walter Koontz (Robert de Niro, Casino) suffers a stroke while attempting to aid a neighbor, an unorthodox form of therapy is prescribed to help him overcome a resulting speech impediment. The suggested therapy becomes even more unorthodox when Walter asks his neighbor, Rusty (Philip Seymour Hoffman, Capote), a flamboyant drag queen with musical talent (and the past recipient of Walter's ire) for help. The unlikely arrangement soon mellows into a grudging friendship in writer/director Joel Schumacher's Flawless. Flawless features supporting performances by Wilson Jermaine Heredia (Rent), Barry Miller (Saturday Night Fever, The Last Temptation of Christ) and Chris Bauer (Face/Off, TV's True Blood).
