Florian Larousse - Guitar Recital - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

In 1974, at just 18, Andrei Gavrilov stunned the world by winning the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Weeks later, he replaced Sviatoslav Richter at the Salzburg Festival, where his dazzling program won rapturous acclaim and revealed a pianist of Inchvirtually unlimited techniqueInch (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung). From this electrifying debut, Gavrilov was celebrated for fearless, spontaneous yet refined artistry. His brilliance set him apart, though his career was later shadowed by years of political confinement in the Soviet Union. This collection gathers all his Warner Classics recordings, a vivid portrait of a pianist whose artistry remains bold and captivating.

?Croatian-born Lovro Peretic has selected a panoramic programme that reaches back to the 18th century and forward to modern times. This recital includes Peretic's own arrangements of a Brahms Intermezzo and two barely known works by Debussy, heard here in their world premiere recordings, alongside Karel Craeyvanger's Weber homage, a sensually evocative piece by Barrios Mangoré, and Henze's richly characterised Second Sonata on Shakespearean Characters.

Lazhar Cherouana, winner of the 2012 coveted Pittaluga Competition, graduated with a gold medal from the conservatory of Lyon under the world famous Peruvian artist Jesús Castro-Balbi, studying further with Eliot Fisk and Marco Tamayo in Austria. Here he demonstrates the guitar's versatility and capacity to absorb many styles and idioms. Rameau's mimicry of birdsong is the spectacular opening to a program which unites Dusan Bogdanovic's Serbian energy with the Basque lyricism of Manjón's Aire Vasco, and the delicate colors of Asencio's Collectici íntim to the 19th-century Italianate virtuosity of Legnani and Regondi.
