About this product
Joseph's deli & lottery is an album about a place we've never entered, but instead dream of what it's like inside. After an extensive break from recording new music we spent a day filming in a new PNW town to reconnect. Over the course of the day we gradually rediscovered the pulse of the band's collaboration. Finding beauty, humor and intrigue in every moment led us into nightfall as we followed an orange glowing light in the distance. The sacred ritual of following the light in the dark felt bittersweet and deeply metaphoric. When we arrived at the destination, rather than walking in we decided to fuel that feeling into a new album. Drifting between the subtle comfort and acceptance of being in the darkness mixed with moments of emerging into the light, the album tends to sway back and forth in many aspects. Never lost is Fox Academy's classic appreciation of love, beauty, stores, food, halloween, brands, corporations, and professional sports. With a swirling mix of new and old for t

Vinyl LP pressing including . The slow-burn sounds of Sonic Youth's 1986 rehearsals to score Ken Friedman's spooky highway film Made In USA are yet another mile marker in the band's long and varied existence, now being issued as Spinhead Sessions. These jams were later built upon for a full-on (and quite different) soundtrack production, but the rough sketches here find the band taking time with truly new and introspective sound worlds. It was basically a brand new way of working for Sonic Youth, albeit a challenging one, under the auspices of major Hollywood film production overlords, routing their way into the world of soundtrack scoring. And it all comes at a key time and place. It's no secret that 1986 was a transformative year for the band in many ways. The gravitation to the beloved SST stable, in addition to Steve Shelley, now drumming, certainly gave Sonic Youth a renewed vigor and vocabulary. They were already an international touring machine, and gaining considerable steam with critics (even spinning the heads of detractors who had dismissed their arty downtown boho sensibilities prior to '86's Evol). Their cultdom with fans had concrete roots by this point, and the influences that were swarming in the band's orbit marked an exciting time, where almost any trajectory seemed possible, and they were going for it.
Vinyl LP pressing Reissue of this 1980 album from the R&B, funk, soul, and rock icon. Dirty Mind is the sound of Prince's musical vision being fully realized. After toiling away in the studio for three years attempting to concoct the perfect genre-defying mix of rock, synth pop, funk and new wave, his third album for Warner Bros. Records finally unleashed the pent-up energy that had been simmering at Prince's live shows. The recordings heard on Dirty Mind were originally intended to be demos, but Prince found the material to be so powerfully honest and of-the-moment that he wanted it released urgently. After a brief back and forth with Warner Bros. - the tag was concerned that the sexually explicit and controversial lyrics on songs like InchHeadInch and InchSisterInch would make radio airplay impossible - Prince prevailed and Dirty Mind was released on October 8, 1980.
