    Great home for a NAS

    The Define R5 was and is one of Fractal's best products (I own their Define C, Meshify C, this R5, the North, and the Terra). It has been almost a decade now since the compact Define series ditched the 5.25" bays, and most cases on the market now support only 1-2 3.5" drives. With their newer designs Fractal promises that you can buy parts and accessories like side panels and additional drive cages, but availability is scarce. The R5 has an advantage over its successors here in that it comes from the factory with the 8 3.5" drive sleds installed and all necessary mounting hardware included. And if you get creative, more 3.5" drives can be mounted on the ample floor space or in the ODD mount. This case would be a 5 star affair, but the included fan hub is 3 pin only, which isn't the biggest problem but the spacing of the headers means you can't just attach 4 pin PWM fans and use them in DC mode. Also, my R5 came with a side panel that sticks and is a bit difficult to remove so there is still some QC work to be done more than a decade after release. Overall, the R5 is from a different time in PC building and it shows, both good and bad.

    Simplicity is difficult

    Let's get one thing out of the way. This is not your rgb flashing strobe light case, this is not made to satisfy hardcore gamer aesthetic. However, it is silent, understated, and has every feature many modern cases are missing. That is, a full set of drive racks, optical drive bay, and silent fans, cable management, noise dampening... If you are the target client for this I think you already know

    Amazing Case for Home Servers

    An amazing case. Big, modular, great airflow, and has 8 3.5in HDD bays. Amazing! This is a very popular case for home server owners. It was recommended to me, and I would always recommend this to others. Very reasonably priced too.

    Modern Old School

    I'm using this case for a linux server with multiple enterprise drives for network storage and container hosting. The tower looks dressed for the role compared to a mesh or glass gaming tower. It's built to reduce noise while still allowing for great airflow. Top and side panels are customizable for additional fans/airflow.
