About this product
From a lifetime of music creation, Seattle-based Italian pianist & composer Francesco Crosara selected 10 of his compositions from the last 40 years with the idea of highlighting the nexus between early work, with it's simplicity and youthful appeal, to later works where he expressed richer harmonic textures and possibilities. Always close by are the influences from his early mentoring in Rome from Chick Corea & Dizzy Gillespie, through his move to the US and the program at USC. Three different rhythm sections bring his music to life, each adding varied sonic textures and rhythmic vitality to the whole. Bassist Clipper Anderson & drummer Mark Ivester swing and float; the vibrant grooves of electric bassist Farko Dosumov and drummer D'Vonne Lewis lend a modern momentum; and the youthful eclecticism of bassist Osama Afifi and drummer Xavier Lecouturier adds yet another dimension.

Recorded in Chicago and Honolulu, features Von Freeman, Dave Marr, Rusty Jones, Dean Taba, Noel Okimoto, David Choy, Souren Baronian. 'a great meeting of two worlds that harmonize beautifully' Von Freeman. Notes by the Artist These notes about each song in the album are not included in the CD layout. They are therefore available exclusively through this web site. Their purpose is to bring the listener closer to the artist's intention and approach in composition and arranging. Dolphin Dance Hancock (Hancock music/BMI) My intention was to revisit Herbie Hancock's classic standard with an original approach. The piano solo intro sparsely traces the melody and evolves into a slow dynamic Latin groove with the rhythm section. Finally, Von's powerful sound comes through as the tempo suddenly switches to a straight- ahead feel. The mood keeps growing through a simultaneous piano and bass solo duet and resolves into a Latin groove. Colors crosara (Cecila music/BMI) Colors, the album's title track, is an introspective original composition of mine masterfully interpreted by Von Freeman. The tenor/piano duet alternates the delicate melody and resolves into a lyrical coda proving once again that 'less is more'. Someday My Prince Will Come Churchill-Morey (Bourne co/ASCAP) Disney's classic, performed by most of jazz great innovators, is revamped with crisp cymbal work by Hawaiian virtuoso drummer Noel Okimoto supported by electric bass and Rhodes electric piano. The resulting fusion oriented approach gives new life and greater energy to this standard making it impossible to listen to this tune sitting still. In my opinion this recording has the best 'groove' of the entire album. I Loves You Porgy / Bess You Is My Woman gershwin-heyward (WB music/ASCAP) This original arrangement of mine was tailored around the beautiful and warm tone of Von Freeman's tenor. New York City based songwriter Gary Canino, submits to you a generous collection of country-inflected music under the Dark Tea moniker that honor the past while looking ahead. There is, as they say, a little something for everyone. With Dark Tea, Gary emerges as a scientist does from her lab, having cracked the formula. The formula? Honor the listeners' desire for both danger and comfort. And so, when a melody starts to wander from the marked trail, Gary soothes the listener's ear with a simple one-four (InchVariable RewardInch). And so, when ambling verse figure disorients the listener, it repeats until she feels at home in it (InchThe Bird's NestInch). And so, a long verse finds punctuation in a tasteful punchy chorus (InchNo NotificationsInch). The album also contains no fewer than three truly great guitar solos, including one from Meg Duffy's Hand Habits on InchRollin' Back The DialInch. Mixed by Jarvis Taveniere (Woods), mastered by Mikey Young (Total Control).01. Rolling Back The Dial ft. Hand Habits02. Variable Reward03. Angel of Night04. The Old Country Road Waltz05.
