A: For anyone else confused as to whether it's 8,000 BTU or 12,000 BTU, here's an explanation I found; "Portable air conditioners were originally labeled with the same BTU rating system as window air conditioners and wall AC units, but in 2018 manufacturers realized this led to an inaccurate assessment of the unit's cooling capabilities. When an air conditioner is cooling a room, the unit's cooling mechanism ends up emitting some heat. Unlike a window or wall unit, a portable air conditioner sits entirely inside a room, and some of the emitted heat ends up dissipating into the very space it's trying to cool. This means the room isn't getting as cool as the old ASHRAE rating indicates. The new DOE rating is more accurate because it takes into account the heat emitted by the exhaust on the portable AC. While the ASHRAE rating gives the hard numbers of the BTU output, the DOE rating is more of a "real-feel" rating. This means you can be sure your AC unit is more accurately rated, which means better cooling and greater efficiency."

Customers consistently note the 3–in-1 Portable Room Air Conditioner's excellent cooling performance and ease of installation. Many appreciate its user-friendly features, including the remote control, while some find the unit heavy and the exhaust hose prone to issues. Noise level is another area where opinions diverge, with some users finding it acceptable and others noting it can be quite loud. Overall, the air conditioner receives positive feedback for its cooling capabilities but also draws criticism for certain aspects of its design and functionality.

I just received my fridgaire 3-1 portable air conditioner 8000/12,000 BTU. It arrived quicker than what the date posted, and for that, I am grateful! Pros: AC works as it should, very efficient and cold at 72*, as much expected, works very well in a 300-600sqft bedroom, remote and wireless features are amazing. Cons: The plastics panel that connects to the hose is a ‘snap-on’ (it works but you will knock it off easily by a slight bump), the hose heats up, so expect heat/air draft (I suggest you buy insulated duct wrap from lowes or Home Depot, along with air duct tape), screws in the windows (I avoided this part) if you feel insecure, it’s not like anyone is going to look into full detail of your bedroom/house windows. Overall: 8/10. It’s an amazing purchase and worth the quality.

We chose the Frigidaire 3-in-1 portable AC because it had been reviewed as being quieter than some others, and it does seem relatively quiet. Unpacking and setup was simple enough, although the operation manual is not very user-friendly. The device seems well designed, although the flexible air hose connectors on both the device and the window slider kit seem to be rather flimsy. I find turning-on the black Control Panel difficult to read without the help of a flashlight. Our main complaint: There is a lack of communication regarding whether or not to connect a (water) hose to the "continuous drain outlet" on the back – the unit will operate with that outlet capped off, but when a hose is attached, it can fill a gallon jug in just a few hours with water that is removed from the air. Why is this choice not presented in any of the marketing literature? The unit seems to cool more efficiently when the water is draining, but we don't want to have to keep emptying water jugs or worrying about overflow onto the floor. (And drilling a hole to the outdoors is out of the question.) So we will operate it in capped-off drain mode.

REALLY like this air conditioner! It cools my upstairs down quickly and it quieter than I expected. Wish I had bought one sooner. Within the first week, it did start to have a cyclical noisy vibration when it ran at the highest speed to cool the air. Best Buy is exchanging it - will write a new review on that one! (The top of the a/c looks bumpy in the photo because I put the protective plastic back on for the exchange)
