About this product

... through which the past shines... is a collection of the current complete works for guitar, both solo and in ensemble, by composers Nils Vigeland and Reiko Fueting. The music is emblematic of both composers' sophisticated voices, grounded in the tradition while forward looking in nuanced and elegantly integrated ways. Vigeland, whose mentors included Morton Feldman and Lukas Foss and who directed the influential Bowery Ensemble in the 1980s, is an important link in the InchNew York SchoolInch of composers. As director of the composition department at the Manhattan School of Music for several decades, he had a profound influence on several generations of composers, including current MSM faculty member and East German native Reiko Fueting. All the performances on this recording of music by Vigeland and Fueting by guitarist Daniel Lippel (ICE, Flexible Music), John Popham (Longleash, Either/Or), and Vigeland himself are the byproduct of close working relationships developed over the last 17 years. Album Tracks 1. Two Variations (1990)Inch I. Double 2. ... Through Which the Past Shines... (2017) 3. Wand-Uhr Infinite Shadows (2013/2016) 4. Hine Ma Tov (2009) 5. Red Wall (2006) 6. Various Artists - From Windsor with Love - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The Queen's Six return to Signum with a new album of romantic pop song arrangements. Conceived with US producer TJ Armand, the album of new a cappalla arrangements sets traditional classics such as Bob Dylan's Make you feel my love, and Young and Heyman's When I fall in love, next to more unusual songs such as Huey Lewis and the News' The Power of Love, and Limahl's Never Ending Story. Based at Windsor Castle, the members of The Queen's Six make up half of the Lay Clerks of St George's Chapel, whose homes lie within the Castle walls. The Chapel Choir, which consists of boy trebles and twelve professional adult singers, performs some eight services a week, as well as at private and state occasions, often before the Royal Family. In 2018, their duties with the Chapel Choir included singing for the wedding of Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. In 2021, three members of the group's voices were raised at the funeral for His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. Their repertoire extends far beyond the reach of the choir stalls from austere early chant, florid Renaissance polyphony, lewd madrigals, and haunting folk songs, to upbeat jazz and pop arrangements. Album Tracks 1. Heaven Is a Place on Earth 2. The Power of Love 3. Make You Feel My Love 4. I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) 5. Right Here Waiting 6. Just the Two of Us 7. Stand By Me 8. Just the Way You Are 9. Now That We Found Love 10. Have I Told You Lately 11. When I Fall in Love 12. Never Ending Story 13. Mystery of Love

Various - Through Glass - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Navona Records presents some of the finest American voices of modern serious music on THROUGH GLASS, a brand-new compilation of recently-created works for piano - both solo and in chamber setups. Ovidiu Marinescu's Rorrim for cello and piano makes the start. Loosely based on a motif by Johann Sebastian Bach, it could be called a concept piece it's title, InchmirrorInch spelled backwards, is reflective of the mirrorings and variations of Bach's fragment therein. Bruce Babcock continues on a similar note with his riskily-titled Alternative Facts, a piece for solo piano characterized by a deceptively simple, mechanical main rhythm repeated in complex harmonies. As announced in the title, a deliberate systematic confusion prevails, and with astonishing accuracy. I'lana Cotton's ambitious The Return for piano, violin, and cello bridges the gap between Ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu and French avant garde composer Olivier Messiaen - and that gap is smaller than one might think. At 13.5 minutes, the work impressively centers around a beautiful dark mode and the melodic variations it generates. Alla Cohen's Three Film Noir Pieces were intended to be heard along two movies, Cat People and The Curse of the Cat People, both films from the WWII-era. Cohen's solo piano works reflect the composer's celebrated sophisticated style, and perfectly transport the eerie atmosphere of the films into music. Curt Cacioppo's Trio for Violin, Horn and Piano derives it's material entirely from solfège spellings of the names of the three players. The three-movement work cycles through a wide range of emotions, from whimsy to unhinged rage, and concludes with a quasi-tango with a political message. Peter Deutsch's fugue de Profundis Clamavi (roughly, Inchfrom the depths I have cried [to you, Lord]Inch) is a calm reflection on the human longing that creates but also transcends religion. Insp
