G. Mahler - Symphony 1 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Soprano Suzie LeBlanc sings the poetry of Elizabeth Bishop in 10 stunning settings by four Canadian composers, each of whom shines a new light on words that have exquisite clarity and finely-wrought observation. Suzie's voice has as many beautiful colors as the images she describes in Silken Water The Elizabeth Bishop Suit; Sunday 4am; Sandpiper; a short, slow life; and Four Songs.

A paradigmatic example of the Wiener Symphoniker's core repertoire, Mahler's First Symphony in D major was written only four years before the orchestra was founded in 1900. Not surprisingly, Mahler's symphonies and their interpretational challenges were among the main interests of the orchestra and it's many renowned conductors from the very beginning. Above that Mahler's Symphony No. 1, being the first oeuvre of a Vienna revolutionary, is more than suitable for the start of this new Vienna orchestra tag!
