Gabriel Martinez-Gros is Emeritus Professor of Medieval Islamic History at the University of Nanterre, a specialist in Umayyad ideology and a great connoisseur of the thought of Ibn Khaldûn. The historian presents a history of Al-Andalus, i.e. Spain conquered by Muslim troops in the 8th century, during the Arab conquests, and then ruled by the Umayyad caliphs of Cordoba until the 11th century.
