Gaika - Spaghetto - VINYL LP

Gaika presents his debut album, Basic Volume, after captivating listeners with a blistering pair of acclaimed, self-released mixtapes Machine and Security and Warp-released EPs SPAGHETTO and The Spectacular Empire. Now GAIKAs darkly magnetic blend of gothic dancehall and industrial electronics has expanded into his most far-reaching work yet. Basic Volume is a sprawling yet cohesive album that devours genres and spits them out, tangled around personal tales of love, loss and rebellion. Gaika has already bum-rushed the covers of the WIRE magazine and CRACK (alongside compatriot Dean Blunt), as well as being appointed DAZED political editor at large. Expectations are high for the debut from this singular voice.1. Basic Volume2. Hackers & Jackers3. Seven Churches For St Jude4. Ruby5. Born Thieves6. 36 Oaths7. Black Empire (Killmonger Riddim)8. Brixton-born artist, rapper and producer Gaika is due to his forthcoming album DRIFT - the most stylistically accurate representation of his personal tastes to date - on Big Dada on 8th September 2023. Available on 2LP red colour vinyl with artwork by Gaika himself. Drift is non-conforming and genre blending. Whilst hard to neatly fit in a box, the record feels like an avant garde blend of Electronic, Hip-Hop, Punk and Grunge music featuring soundscapes recorded from Gaika's travels abroad. Shapeshifting and cinematic in style, Gaika draws inspiration from musical greats; Prince, Wu Tang Clan, Massive Attack, and John Coltrane. With his approach akin to the Pink Siifus, A$AP Rockys, and Dean Blunts of this world. The campaign will kick off with lead single LADY featuring bbymutha on May 31st with an official music video (dir. Jade Jackman), plus 3 additional singles and respective music videos. Gaika's sound spans from grime, dancehall, R&B, electronic, and beyond, often weaving in political commentary through his lyricism. New album Drift is an ensemble record with Gaika as the central writer working with collaborators bbymutha, KIDÄ, Azekel, Charlie Stacey, Chamber 45, Brbko, The Narrator (Amber Joy), SAMANTHA, and more. Gaika is an active presence in the art scene. Previous projects and residencies have included Future Shock at 180 the Strand, Now Gallery, and the ICA, to name a few. His newest ventures will take place at Southbank and Hayward Gallery. Forthcoming A/V installations include Sonar Festival and Pic Nic Affair (in addition to a live performance).A1. DRIFT ONA2. Sim Nagai loves traveling. Whether these are actual travels to beachy coasts and mountain vistas, or imagined through wishlists and dreams, travel is an inspiration for the Belgian producer's musical activities. Sim's latest album, Equator Hotline, is no different, featuring exotica-fueled beatscapes and transportive vibes. Titles like InchPost from Hawaii,Inch InchFlute Resort,Inch and InchOceanic WhitetipsInch are clues to where Sim's head is - but Equator Hotline is also a big step forward from previous releases. The tracks showcase an extra depth, and Sim's knack for rich instrumentation is beautifully amplified throughout the album's thirteen selections. Equator Hotline is like a sonic upgrade on your next flight to parts unknown. Cuts like InchGentle BreezeInch are Equator Hotline's bread and butter - on that tune, a sweet vibraphone line glides over a chilled rhythm track as magical bell trees and avian nature sounds tip-toe in the stereo field. It's introspective and calming, transmitting the feel of a lazy getaway. InchCatching WavesInch also gives the listener something to daydream about - reassuring chords on spacious keys complement a cool hi-hat line and expressive flourishes. The equator itself is breached on InchDeep in the RainforestInch as busy percussion playfully accompanies the downtempo drum beat. Electric pianos and bass guitar come together for a stirring melodic motif, giving an emotional spin on tropical climes. Equator Hotline is a musical postcard sent from relaxing, sublime places.
