The Opal 2.0 is a game changer. Compared to the original Opal, which understandably earned a great reputation of its own, the new Opal 2.0 takes things further with Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth, where you can schedule ice-making, flip the light on/off, and monitor its status. I say "monitor", because you don't receive push notifications when it's time to add water or sanitize the machine. You also can't schedule the light, but these are minor gripes that GE is bound to resolve in the next iteration. The step up to Wi-Fi, however, is a big step in the right direction. Another improvement is the included metal scoop with magnetic holder, which you can affix to either side. In the original, it was plastic without a holder that you'd typically set down in front on the drip tray. If you get the side tank, also magnetic, you are essentially adding 3 times the water capacity (able to make 9 lbs of ice instead of just 3 before needing refilled). It also comes with a replaceable filter that you can optionally install in the main reservoir, which is a nice touch even if you are adding prefiltered water. Visually, the Opal 2.0 adds backlit text across the top that lets you know what the machine is doing. There are notifications that will light up when it's time to add water or replace the filter (the previous model relied on a circle of light displaying patterns that you'd have to look up to decipher - not fun). Other than that, this is essentially the same great nugget ice maker that makes the BEST chewable ice. Think Sonic or hospital-style ice. It achieves this better than the competition, which in my mind helps justify the higher price tag. When it first hit store shelves in 2021, you'd expect to pay over $600, but now it is down to a more reasonable price range. The Opal makes ice quick too. The picture I attached shows it dropping ice just a few minutes after turning it on. Great for parties and get-togethers, so your guests don't have to dig through the freezer or be asked to bring bags of ice on their way. It's an instant hit that greatly improves what's in your cup. The ice absorbs flavors of the drink, which is so satisfying! Once you've added this nugget ice to water bottles, mixed drinks, soda pop, etc. (you name it), you'll wonder how you ever got by without it!

Love this GE ice maker! It’s super easy to use and makes perfect nugget ice—just like Sonic. The texture is soft, chewable, and honestly addictive. It looks great on the counter and works quickly. If you’re into that ‘good ice,’ this is 100% worth it.

I brought this produce wanting the best ice texture as possible and I found what I was looking for. This baby keeps ice full and with all the cleaning notifications, it gone make sure you know when its time to clean it. Rhe only problem im having now after a month and a half of having it was that my "add Water light" keeps popping up after my water is filled in the resvoir making not produce ice. I ran a descale mode and turn it off for 10 min and it went back to working and 2 two days after i ran a sanitized mode and it went back to doing that "add water light" and not making ice. So i did it again and its back working. Im not sure what wrong with that, i would love to know what to do with that part. But over all.. its making ice..

My wife has been wanting a nugget ice maker for quite sometime and after exensive research we decided on the Opel 2.0. With about 2 weeks of use I would say she is absolutley thrilled with it. We read some reviews about the noise level, but I would say it hasn't been an issue, no more than a dishwasher. We purchased the unit without the extra water tank and it has met our needs. We noticed the unit runs quite a bit, but that is more likely due to our consumption. Would definitely purchase again.

I’m extremely happy with my Ultra Nugget Ice Maker! It has been a great addition to my kitchen, and I use it almost every day. The nugget ice is soft, crunchy, and has that perfect texture that makes drinks so much more enjoyable. It’s especially nice because the ice is easy to chew and doesn’t feel as hard as regular ice cubes. The machine is very easy to operate and produces ice relatively quickly, which is perfect when I have guests over or when I simply want a cold drink throughout the day. I also really like the convenience of having fresh nugget ice available at home instead of having to buy bags of ice. The design is attractive and fits nicely in my kitchen without taking up too much space. It’s also convenient to refill and maintain, and overall it feels like a well-made appliance. The ice quality has been consistent, and the machine has performed very well for my everyday needs. If you’re a fan of nugget or “chewy” ice, I definitely recommend this ice maker. The GE Opal 2 is my family’s favorite nugget ice maker. We’ve owned 4-5 different models and brands, but this Opal 2 is very user friendly and the ice is absolutely crunchable!

The bright white opal ice maker ultimate 2.0 makes ice quickly and cleanly. You might want to get a side tank (from Target or Amazon) or have the unit connected to a wall water hose to be able to have it make lots of ice without having to refill constantly...

This is a really great ice maker. The only thing that I think of would make it any better would be if it came with an extra water reservoir. The ice is the perfect size, small and crunchy. It is great. We have a constant supply of ice and that is extremely nice and convenient.

I like this ice maker so much it’s my 2nd one in the last 10 years, and that’s the old one making ice several times a day. Highly recommend this one to everyone!!

I bought this as a gift for my sister-in-law. The set up process was a bit cumbersome, rinsing with bleach and flushing it but after about 24 hours she was able to plug it in and actually get it to make ice which it did REALLY WELL for about FOUR DAYS. Then nothing, they were on the phone with GE for about an hour who tried to troubleshoot it with them and eventually GE just told them to return it. I’m so upset because she was so happy with the gift at first. I don’t know if they’ll exchange as beg it for the same one or get a different model with the credit but based on her experience I wouldn’t recommend.

Ice is twice as nice when it’s a nugget. Love soft chewy ice.

When this ice makee works, it's amazing. The problem is it will periodically start making a loud noise that requires us to unplug the unit. Anyone else experience this with theirs?

This is hands down the best nugget ice maker we have used! We had a Euhomy before that was horrible. Switched to the Opal and havent had a single issue!

It is a reliable and very good quality product.That's why I recommend it to everyone.

Best nugget ice maker, would recommend over and over

I recently replaced the Opal Ice Maker with this new model, and overall, it's been a decent addition to my kitchen. The ice it produces is great—soft, chewable nugget ice, which is exactly what I wanted. It’s perfect for cocktails and soft drinks. The machine is also relatively compact and doesn’t take up too much counter space, which I appreciate. The setup was easy, and it started making ice pretty quickly after plugging it in. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, the ice maker is a bit noisy, especially when it's running on full cycle. It’s not super disruptive, but it’s noticeable, especially in a quiet room. Additionally, while it does make ice relatively quickly, it doesn’t always produce a large batch at once, so you might find yourself needing to reload it sooner than expected if you’re hosting a lot of people. Also, the unit can be a little tricky to clean, and I’ve had to run a few cleaning cycles to ensure it's in good shape. Pros: Makes excellent nugget ice Compact and easy to set up Quick ice production Cons: Noisy when running Small water reservoir Can be tricky to clean All in all, the Opal Ice Maker works well for smaller households or occasional use, but if you need a high-volume ice maker or one that’s completely silent, you might want to look elsewhere. Lastly, I'd HIGHLY recommend paying for the extended warranty if you are not a Total Tech member. I've had to replace this unit about once a year & that would have not been possible without the warranty.

This is my second GE nugget machine and this newer design seems to be much better. We loved the old one but it wasn’t working properly after 4 years. While the original one only lasting 4 years was disappointing, I can see where they have made changes and upgrades to the new one that will increase the longevity of our favorite ice maker! The filter inside is a great upgrade. The way the fans are placed and access to them seems to be much better. The way the hoses from the back are situated make it easier and better to access, The try in front and the way the dispenser pulls out is also much improved. The best part is the pebble/nugget ice never disappoints! We love this little machine and it keeps up with producing enough ice for the family on a daily basis.

Owned for almost 2 months and have used nearly every single day. Great quality ice. Love chewing on it. Easy to use and maintain. I like how there's an app where I can schedule times/days for this to function. Good gor early work days. It is pricey, but I do like this better than other types of ice makers that I've used before. I've read elsewhere that some people have had issue with pump system when a filter is installed within the ice maker. So we just use filtered zerowater (since our primary source of water anyways) instead with the screen insert. No problems.

For the small extra money it would be handy to have the expansion tank. It is quite noisy though. But makes ice quick, easy to use, love the magnetic scoop holder for the side.
