GE Profile - Opal 2.0 Ultra Nugget Ice Maker with Scale Inhibiting Filter - Stainless Steel

The Opal 2.0 is a game changer. Compared to the original Opal, which understandably earned a great reputation of its own, the new Opal 2.0 takes things further with Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth, where you can schedule ice-making, flip the light on/off, and monitor its status. I say "monitor", because you don't receive push notifications when it's time to add water or sanitize the machine. You also can't schedule the light, but these are minor gripes that GE is bound to resolve in the next iteration. The step up to Wi-Fi, however, is a big step in the right direction. Another improvement is the included metal scoop with magnetic holder, which you can affix to either side. In the original, it was plastic without a holder that you'd typically set down in front on the drip tray. If you get the side tank, also magnetic, you are essentially adding 3 times the water capacity (able to make 9 lbs of ice instead of just 3 before needing refilled). It also comes with a replaceable filter that you can optionally install in the main reservoir, which is a nice touch even if you are adding prefiltered water. Visually, the Opal 2.0 adds backlit text across the top that lets you know what the machine is doing. There are notifications that will light up when it's time to add water or replace the filter (the previous model relied on a circle of light displaying patterns that you'd have to look up to decipher - not fun). Other than that, this is essentially the same great nugget ice maker that makes the BEST chewable ice. Think Sonic or hospital-style ice. It achieves this better than the competition, which in my mind helps justify the higher price tag. When it first hit store shelves in 2021, you'd expect to pay over $600, but now it is down to a more reasonable price range. The Opal makes ice quick too. The picture I attached shows it dropping ice just a few minutes after turning it on. Great for parties and get-togethers, so your guests don't have to dig through the freezer or be asked to bring bags of ice on their way. It's an instant hit that greatly improves what's in your cup. The ice absorbs flavors of the drink, which is so satisfying! Once you've added this nugget ice to water bottles, mixed drinks, soda pop, etc. (you name it), you'll wonder how you ever got by without it!

I brought this produce wanting the best ice texture as possible and I found what I was looking for. This baby keeps ice full and with all the cleaning notifications, it gone make sure you know when its time to clean it. Rhe only problem im having now after a month and a half of having it was that my "add Water light" keeps popping up after my water is filled in the resvoir making not produce ice. I ran a descale mode and turn it off for 10 min and it went back to working and 2 two days after i ran a sanitized mode and it went back to doing that "add water light" and not making ice. So i did it again and its back working. Im not sure what wrong with that, i would love to know what to do with that part. But over all.. its making ice..

Best ice machine! Soft and crunchy and small, best of you like true nugget ice and not bullet, also very easy to use and maintenance is easy

The GE Opal 2 is my family’s favorite nugget ice maker. We’ve owned 4-5 different models and brands, but this Opal 2 is very user friendly and the ice is absolutely crunchable!

My wife has been wanting a nugget ice maker for quite sometime and after exensive research we decided on the Opel 2.0. With about 2 weeks of use I would say she is absolutley thrilled with it. We read some reviews about the noise level, but I would say it hasn't been an issue, no more than a dishwasher. We purchased the unit without the extra water tank and it has met our needs. We noticed the unit runs quite a bit, but that is more likely due to our consumption. Would definitely purchase again.
