Product Manuals
A: When you first start the Opal and it begins to make ice, the initial batches of ice nuggets will be slushy. After about 30 minutes, your Opal will be making good, solid nuggets. If the ice nuggets are all slushy, even the ones at the top of the ice bin, the Opal may need to be cleaned. Water quality is very important to the function and required maintenance of your ice maker. Minerals from your water can build up in the Opal over time, which would then need to be cleaned. We recommend using distilled water in your Opal. Even bottled water can have high mineral content.
A: Fill reservoir with potable (safe to drink) water up to the "Max Fill" line. Using any liquid except potable water is misuse and will void your warranty. The Opal will start to make ice within 10 minutes. It will continue to make ice until the bin is full or it runs out of water.
A: this model comes with the water filter installed. The ice bin light just shows status and doesn’t need to stay on, and the unit makes ice continuously as long as there’s water and space in the bin.
Q: Does this have water hook up option?
A: Opal's do not have the capability to be connected via a water line. They instead rely on the water reservoir to produce ice, it will also collect the melted water from unused cubes so that the water isn't wasted.
A: You can install this ice maker in a large closet as long as there is proper air flow and adequate clearance (3" at the rear and the sides) allowed for airflow around the sides and back of the unit. If the ice maker is installed in an enclosed cabinet, the rate of ice making will be reduced due to higher temperatures within the cabinet.
A: The side tank for this model is sold separately. The compatible side tank is part P4AAKASBRTD, and it can be viewed and purchased on our GE Appliances Parts website.
Q: I would like to get a water reservoir, for some reason it didn't come with one.
A: The side tank is not included with this model. However, it is sold separately. The compatible side tank is part P4AAKASBRTD, and it can be viewed and purchased on our GE Appliances Parts website.
Q: Can a water reservoir be added to this later?
A: Yes, the Side Tank accessory can be attached to this model to allow for more water and ice production. You can view more information starting on page 12 in the user manual. You can view the manual by clicking on "Features" and scrolling to the bottom.
