Unit makes ice quickly; however it is not quiet at all. You can hear the fan going and the as it makes ice it loads it into the tray. Kids love it however as they like the chewy ice. Giving it 3 stars as it has a spot for a filter but no filter is included initially.

I purchased this model because I had previously owned the original GE Profile Opal 1.0, which worked reliably for about four years before eventually becoming clogged with sludge and mineral buildup. I decided to upgrade to this newer model because I liked the improved features and expected it to be an improvement over the original. The ice is slightly different than what the original model produced, and this unit initially made ice very quickly. Unfortunately, my experience with the new model has been very disappointing. After only about a month, the unit stopped working properly. I attempted the recommended descaling process twice, but it did not resolve the problem. The machine then began making unusual noises and would shut itself off. Considering that my previous Opal lasted approximately four years, I expected the newer model to provide at least comparable reliability. Having it fail after only a month, despite attempting the recommended cleaning and descaling procedures, is extremely disappointing. The ice quality and production speed are good when the machine works, but based on my experience, I cannot recommend this model due to the reliability issues I encountered.

Love this ice maker! It makes the perfect soft, chewable nugget ice quickly and is very easy to use. The stone grey color looks great on the counter, and it keeps up well with our family. Definitely a great purchase!
