George Jones - Hits By George - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2015 collection of classic hits recorded by Country icon George Jones. Country music existed before and after George Jones, but there are very few artists who have left the kind of impact he did on the genre. HITS BY GEORGE includes 10 of the 270 songs George Jones recorded from 1965 thru 1971 on the Musicor Records tag. Jones' good-timin' Rockabilly classic titled InchWhite Lightnin'Inch was Jones' first #1-hit. It topped the charts in 1959 when it was first released. Ironically, Jones didn't even want to record the song because he felt like it compromised his pure Country image. Jones is back at his Country best on InchAccidentally on Purpose,Inch a #19-hit in 1960. It is one of many songs written by George Jones, a fact so often overshadowed by his incredible vocals. George Jones' beautiful, but heartrending, vocals on InchWindow Up AboveInch made it a huge #2-hit in 1960. Jones' touching InchTender YearsInch was a #1-hit in 1961. In 1962, InchShe Thinks I Still CareInch was another milestone #1-hit song for Jones. Enjoy George Jones at his best on each of these great Musicor recordings.

George Jones - Essential - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

George Jones - New Country Hits - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

New Country Hits features Jones's first studio recording of InchTake MeInch, a song he co-wrote with Leon Payne and would record more famously with Tammy Wynette. The album also includes the hits InchLove BugInch (inspired by Buck Owens and the Bakersfield sound) and the self-pitying InchThings Have Gone To PiecesInch. Although he stuck to country music with a vengeance, Jones did his best to record a wide range of songs under the country umbrella, stating in the 1989 documentary Same Ole Me, InchI've always tried to be versatile. I've always tried to do up-tempos and novelties and ballads.Inch The album is also noteworthy for it's cover, which features the singers backing band the Jones Boys. Like Buck Owens' Buckaroos and Merle Haggard's Strangers, Jones worked with many musicians who were great talents in their own right, including Johnny Paycheck, who played bass and sang harmony with Jones before going on to his own stardom in the 1970s. Paycheck is seated next to Jones on the cover of the album.
