About This Item

As she's gotten older, Ella Smoker has found that her subconscioushas been trying to tell her Inchsome pretty wacky stuffInch. Thoughts willcome to the 21-year-old singer-songwriter in dreams, or as shewrites lyrics in studio sessions, words floating onto the page beforeshe's really had a moment to realise what they are. InchAs soon as westart making the music, my brain sort of turns off,Inch she explains. InchI'llbe sitting there, writing all this stuff that feels like a load ofnonsense, and a month later, I'll look back and be like 'oh'. It allcomes from a place I didn't even realise was there.InchIn learning how to open up to herself, Gglum ended up finding akindred spirit in producer Karma Kid (Maisie Peters, Shygirl, ConnieConstance), pushing past her natural bedroom-pop introversion tofind joy in the process of collaboration. Whether it's the raggedradio-rock of 'SPLAT!' (Inchbasically about realising that somebody youheld up very highly is actually just a massive shambles of apersonInch) or the riotous, industrial energy of 'Easy Fun', Smoker isable to reshape her vocal around the mood, creating a record whichexpertly balances light and shade. InchI've never really done anythingin like that vocal style before,Inch she says of 'Easy Fun's near-spokendelivery. InchI love that song because it's not something I would havecome up with on my own, but Karma Kid was great at pushing meout of my comfort zone. I just thought like, look I can be a littlesilly with this.InchThe of 'The Garden Dream' will offer Gglum plenty moreopportunity to get both silly and serious, to be bold in herexploration of new ideas and sounds. But it will also offer theopportunity to further accept herself as the dreamlike artist shealways wanted to be; confidently embellishing acoustic worlds thather listeners can burrow safely within.InchI feel like I naturally gravitate towards wanting to

Deftones - Around the Fur - VINYL LP
4.6(12)

Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression. This LP version comes pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Album Tracks 1. My Own Summer (Shove It) 2. Lhabia 3. Mascara 4. Around the Fur 5. Rickets 6. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) 7. Lotion 8.
