About This Item

Sam Hall's new album as ghost orchard, 'rainbow music', is a collage of patience and meditation. It's filled with nuances as quietly imperceptible as the seasons, or the profound movement of time, where one day looking back you realize your whole spirit has shifted. Where 2019's critically revered 'bunny' was a love letter to a romantic relationship, 'rainbow music' documents the culmination of Hall's first personal experience with loss in several forms. At the end of 2020, his longterm childhood pet passed away, and with it the last continuing threads of familiarity between being a kid and adulthood. Still based in the Grand Rapids, Michigan town he'd grown up in, the static ease of familiar living seemed to be coming apart at the seams, as friends moved on to bigger cities, relationships shapeshifted and in a short period of time, another kitten he'd adopted passed away prematurely, leaving Hall to question the trajectory in which he himself was headed. Like Inchsongs in the key of life,Inch the title 'rainbow music' refers to the myriad of colors and qualities within Hall that are refracted throughout. It's a symbolization of hope and the aftermath, the flickering light at the end of the tunnel (or Inchwhen a rainbow shows up after a big stormInch). InchWish I could have fun anymore,Inch Hall ruminates on InchdancingInch, as well as confessing he Inchwish he made more upbeat bangers.Inch But reality packs more of a punch, and this collection of songs sees him finally be at peace with the current state of affairs. Relatable to anyone who has contemplated what it means to settle down, or even just catch your breath in an era where anguish is commonplace, the of 'rainbow music' is a happy ending in it's own right, a marker of survival that remains close to the bone. Deftones - Around the Fur - VINYL LP
    4.6(11)

Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression. This LP version comes pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Album Tracks 1. My Own Summer (Shove It) 2. Lhabia 3. Mascara 4. Around the Fur 5. Rickets 6. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) 7. Lotion 8.
