About this product
After it's rediscovery in the second half of the 20th century, Vivaldi's Four Seasons has become so popular that it has become a model of inspiration for similar collections that have the same subject matter, use similar instrumental forces and, often, are commissioned to be played alongside the original. Issued in conjunction with the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Astor Piazzolla (4 July 1992), Sixteen Seasons brings together on album for the first time the four most famous Four Seasons hence alongside Vivaldi's Italian concertos, also the Argentinian Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas of Piazzolla (in the version by Leonid Desyatnikov, a composer of Ukrainian origin), The American Four Seasons of Philip Glass, and the InchVivaldi recompositionsInch of British Max Richter. To guide us through these seasons - which are spread over different continents, climates and musical styles - is Concerto Mediterraneo, an ensemble made up of musicians from all over Italy and directed by Gianna Fratta, while the eclectic Alessandro Quarta shares the solo violin role with Dino de Palma. The liner notes by historian Alessandro Vanoli and meteorologist Luca Mercalli complete a project that also stands as a reflection on the profound relationship between man and the alternation of the seasons and the role played by climate change from Vivaldi's day to the present.

Bach's four Lutheran Masses feature almost no Lutheran material at all. Sometimes called 'Missa brevis', musically they are almost entirely made up of movements borrowed from Bach's Cantatas. While often overshadowed by the more famous Mass in B minor, the beauty of these short Masses is that they represent Bach's own choice of his finest Cantata movements. Despite their exquisite beauty, featuring splendid choruses and deeply moving arias, there are relatively few recordings of the Masses. This collection combines The Sixteen's recordings into one collection. Just eight singers join The Sixteen's orchestra to perform the Masses, allowing the beauty of the virtuosic vocal lines to be heard with absolute clarity.

A four-clarinet ensemble with a history spanning over a quarter of a century, since the very beginnings Clarinet Factory have transcended genres and explored the potentialities of the clarinet and it's sound, all the deep-rooted conventions notwithstanding. Speaking volumes are their joint projects with Bobby McFerrin, Alan Vitouš, Lenka Dusilová and Iva Bittová, leading Czech rock bands, including Tata Bojs and Blue Effect, as well as world-renowned orchestras, among them the Prague Philharmonia and the Brno Philharmonic, and the VerTeDance theatre company. Attesting even further to Clarinet Factory's singularity is their own creation, which may be defined as a fascinating adventure-filled journey through music's remote nooks and broad avenues, bringing to bear bold imagination and exceptional invention. In the wake of the most recent, internationally acclaimed albums Worx and Reworx and Meadows, the ensemble have come up with a new album, titled Pipers, recorded almost live at the prestigious SONO Studio. Representing another chapter in their exciting musical odyssey, it highlights Clarinet Factory's intimacy and compactness. Featuring the authenticity and ruggedness characteristic of their live performances in combination with making use of innovative electronic and acoustic instruments, ranging from loopers, through effect devices to the electronic clarinet, the ensemble have succeeded in attaining a truly unique sound! A sound blending elements of classical, jazz and world music with audacious sonic experiment and the traditional song form, overarched by cosmopolitan lyrics in English, Czech and Spanish. Ludek Boura, Vojtech Nýdl, Jindrich Pavliš and Petr Valášek, who have presented their work to great acclaim at Mundial Montréal, Classical NEXT, WOMEX and other international festivals, have conceived an astonishing album, by means of which they have shifted the
