About this product

Schubert had been dead for seven years when, in 1838, the 27-year-old Liszt returned to Vienna for the first time since his childhood, when he had been taken to see Beethoven by his teacher Czerny an, perhaps apocryphally, been blessed by a kiss from the old man. Now apparently discovering the songs of Schubert for the first time, he began to produce transcriptions of Lieder almost as rapidly as they had been written in the first place. Within eight years, Liszt had produced 56 such transcriptions from the treasury of Schubert's Lieder, which are models of their kind faithful, ingenious and gratifying to play. Giovanni Doria-Miglietta includes eight of them in this beautifully curated tribute from one genius to another Du bist die Ruh; Das Wandern; Aufenthalt; Wohin; Gretchen am Spinnrade; Der Doppelgänger; Ständchen, and Der Wanderer. The last of these Lieder had supplied Schubert with the melodic idea for a fantasy of his own which stands as his most brilliantly virtuosic work for the piano. Dating from 1822, the Wanderer Fantasy makes hardly less prodigious demands on the performer than the Hammerklavier Sonata of Beethoven from five years earlier, and in places is more awkwardly written. As the great pianist of his own age, Liszt rewrote the Fantasy in an act of homage, firstly as a concerto, then a solo piece, and this lesser-known version is recorded here by Giovanni Doria Miglietta. As the pianist remarks in his own analytical essay for the album, Liszt did not seek to elaborate or decorate Schubert's writing, the way his successors such as Alkan and Godowsky did in their tributes to Chopin. Rather, Liszt tends to replace sequences in arpeggios with passages of repeated chords or alternating octaves, and he often amuses himself by inserting additional voices (often in the left hand) enriching the polyphonic fabric. Many of these passages are pianistically mor

Fallows,Glenn / Mark Trefel Present - The Globeflower Masters Vol. 1 (Original Soundtrack) - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The Globeflower Masters Vol. 1 takes it's inspiration from classic soundtrack and cinematic composers such as Axelrod, Morricone, Gainsbourg, Jean-Claude Vannier and Piero Umiliani. Created during Summer 2020, this album is the product of a fruitful collaboration between Brighton-based musicians Glenn Fallows (The Impellers / Andres y Xavi) and Mark Treffel (Blue States / The Soul Steppers). These seasoned performing and recording artists have put their abundance of experience and skilful musicianship into effect with aplomb on this album. This is as accomplished a debut as you will ever hear, and dare we say, a future classic in the making. The Globeflower Masters project was borne from an idea Glenn had to create an album that leant on the influence of soundtrack and library composers - particularly of the late 60s and early 70s. This rich sonic palette had previously been innate in his writing and composition but, for this album, the direct inspiration was placed front and centre. After penning several sketches, Glenn contacted Mark to fulfil the vision he had for a complete sound. Mark had an arsenal of vintage synths, pianos and other fun toys which could supplement the drums, guitars and bass that Glenn had been working on. As the album progressed, the pair worked increasingly collaboratively, with each of them starting and sharing ideas to curate the final eight finished tracks. The results are an album of rich, warm, timeless productions that are drenched in strings and classical instrumentation. Awash with atmospheric excursions, it is a listening experience that moves you through moods whilst transporting you to a world of deeply evocative settings and imagined scenarios. The Globeflower Masters Vol. 1 resonates equally as well on a dark melancholic Winter's day as it does sound-tracking a halcyon Summer day. Though influenced by 60s and 70s productions the

Heller / Fischer - Hundertmelodienbuch - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

A fascinating multitude of tonal colors! We are presumably all familiar with the soprano recorder. But who would have imagined that this instrument from our childhood could also become the subcontrabass recorder or a bass gemshorn? In her InchBook of A Hundred MelodiesInch Barbara Heller (70th birthday on 6 October 2006) has collected musical ideas, condensed them, and thus given each piece it's own character. The freedom the composer has granted in the choice of instrument enables Johannes Fischer to exploit for his interpretation not only all available means of artistic expression but the type of recorder as well. Nearly fifty different instruments, some of them rare and exotic, were used for the recording.Sheet music from Schott Musik International ED 9484 Barbara Heller Hundertmelodienbuch for Solo Recorder or other instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet).
