About this product
Lauded London-based trio Girls In Synthesis proudly delivers a new stand-alone EP, the superlative 'Die Leere'. Following on from their second LP The Rest Is Distraction, 'Die Leere' sees the band strip back some of the atonal, noisy elements of their sound and replace it with an intense sparseness, glassy clarity, and added melodic touch. The band's trademark tribal drums and driving bass are still present, alongside warped, deathrock-influenced modulated guitar figures, all adding up to a refreshing update on their truly experimental post-punk. Taking a verse each on 'I Know No Other Way', vocalists John and Jim sing succinct lines dealing with the physicality of human anxiety, and project the anguish of indecision. This subject matter leads on from the internal questioning and emotional darkness on The Rest Is Distraction, leaving the sloganeering and broad statements to the current crop of UK guitar bands. Unlike 'I Know No Other Way', the EP shows the band do know another way and the way is no less brilliant than what's gone before, and undoubtedly what is to come next. 'Die Leere' was recorded and mixed by Girls In Synthesis and recorded at Gun Factory and S. I. C. K. Studio in London and mastered by Ayumu Matsuo. The line-up is John Linger on lead vocals and bass; James Cubit on vocals and guitar; and Nicole Pinto on drums. 140G black vinylTRACKLIST Side 11. I Know No Other Way (2 42)2. Still Life Still - Girls Come Too [VINYL LP] date 08/25/2009
![Ray Mantilla - Rebirth - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/87035272-9937-4581-8b8d-6505841f20cc.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Ray Mantilla was one of the true conga giants during the 1950s, 60s and 70s recording hundreds of album sessions and pioneering the use of unique combinations of latin percussion instruments. Among his most famous collaborations were with Charles Mingus, Herbie Mann and Max Roach. In 1977, Mantilla was selected by the great jazz ambassador Dizzy Gillespie to accompany him to Cuba as the first US band to visit the island since the travel embargo of 1962. Their joint concerts with Cuba's indigenous bands made musical and political history. For REBIRTH, Mantilla surrounded himself with his long-time colleagues Edy Martinez, Ivan Renta, Guido Gonzalez, Diego Lopez and others, once again proving that the music he made came from his heart as well as from his lifetime of experience. Ray Mantilla was very insistent on titling this recording REBIRTH. After a long illness the irrepressible Ray Mantilla passed away a few short months after completing the sessions for this CD. The music contained here is a fitting tribute to the man and the musician beloved by so many.
