Glinka / Fiolia - Complete Piano Works 1 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Friedrich Gernsheim (1839-1916), born in Worms, on the Rhine, grew up to be one of the most formidable musicians of his age composer, pianist, conductor and teacher. Even as a teenager, Gernsheim was attracting attention as a virtuoso-composer, earning comparisons with Mozart. The works here document the emergence of his own musical personality, from an early sonata, which has a Mozartian opening and a Beethovenian slow movement, via a dalliance with Schumann, until he reaches a mature style comparable to Brahms in it's emotional range and depth.

This fascinating collection of rare and distinctive piano works, from the 18th century to the present, is inspired by stories of how women composers created music while meeting the expectations of family and society. Hiroko Ishimoto brings together a remarkably varied programme including works by Ana Bon who was 'chamber music virtuosa' at the Prussian court of King Frederick the Great, the bold harmonies of Vítezslava Kaprálová (a student of Martinu), as well as pieces by Amy Beach based on the calls of the hermit thrush, and so much more.

Live album from Swedish retro/70's rockers. Mostly recorded in Stockholm and Oslo in 2006. Twelve live tracks. Also includes brand new studio track InchI Eveighetens NavInch.
