About this product

Friedrich Goldmann, born in Saxony, lives as a freelance composer in Berlin, but he has also worked in the field of musical education and as a conductor. He was a member of the East German Academy of Arts and has been a professor of composition at the Berlin Hochschule der Künste since 1991. The works of Friedrich Goldmann selected for this documentary CD were all written between 1988 and 1992. For all their many dissimilarities, they reveal the composer's increasing interest in what might be called contingency in musical composition, i. e. The realization that nothing is necessary, that anything can be accomplished in different ways, and is hence contingent. Goldmann's encounter with this basic problem of modern art has led him to distinguish between two complementary strategies of composition. On the one hand, the composer may systematize the connections between compositional elements (e. g. harmony and rhythm). On the other hand, this same systematization makes it possible for him to isolate the functionally self-contained complex entities thus obtained. Both these strategies - the systematic integration of elements, and the isolation of complexes by making them functionally autonomous - are among the abstract principles and initial axioms of Goldmann's musical language. This abstractivist tinge in Goldmann's cast of thought is counterbalanced by his highly practical bias as a performing musician. For years Goldmann has been an active conductor, and this has affected his approach to composition by granting him not only a capability of rational detachment, but also a highly refined and sophisticated range of expression. Album Tracks 1. Spannungen Eingegrenzt 14 43 2. Sonata a Quattro 24 34 3. Bläserquintett 12 47 4. Klangszenen 1 18 07

Vokalharmonin - Simultan Krippenspiel - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Simultan Krippenspiel - Christmas according to DADA - is an amazing version of the Gospel of Luke by the Swedish composer Pär Olofsson for 12 voices, an instrumental ensemble and pre-recorded sound effects. This piece is based on a manuscript by Hugo Ball, prepared for his Grand Soirée in the early summer of 1916 and held at the Cabaret Voltaire. Astonishingly, one of the acts was a Nativity play InchSimultan Krippenspiel - Concert BruitisteInch. The script consisted of one page of the traditional story of the birth of Christ from the Gospel of Luke, while the following page had lines for the familiar characters of Joseph, Mary, the Angel, the Shepherds, and so on - in gibberish. Sound and light effects were spelled out onomatopoetically and were performed by the actors with their voices or by using props. Album Tracks 1. Vorvort 2. Sinfonia 3. Stille Nacht 4. Der Stall 5. Die Erscheinung Des Engels 6. Die Verkündigung 7. Die Heiligen Drei Könige 8. Ankunft Am Stalle 9. Die Prophezeiung 10. Sinfonia Und Nachvort

Na'ama Goldman - Legata - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

On every journey comes a moment where you stop, look around, and listen to what is inside you. There are no rules to these moments. They come and go without our control. One of these moments happened to the Israeli-born mezzo soprano Na'ama Goldman after deciding to put down roots in Berlin. Constantly traveling the world as an opera singer, why was it Berlin of all places? The city from which her family was deported? Music was where she found answers. Mahler, Korngold, and Weill inspired her to look at her life in a different way. The music of Engel carried with it the sounds of distant memories. Argov and Bat offered new perspectives on her homeland. The discovery of the song Elei Tashuv by Sonnenschein, which is dedicated to her grandmother, connected she to her heritage. The Kaddisch by Ravel reminded her of the power of being a woman, by singing this prayer traditionally allowed only for men. When brought together on a CD album, the songs connect with each other. Their music captures a moment in a journey through a multitude of expressions. They speak of their own heritage, their own legacy. Praised as a superb and impeccable singer with a gripping presence on stage, Israeli-born Na'ama Goldman regularly interprets a rich selection of leading roles on international stages. She gained outstanding audience and critical acclaim in 2012 when she stepped in at the last minute to play the title role in Carmen at the Masada Opera Festival of The Israeli Opera, while still a member of their Meitar Opera Studio.
