Q: Does this work with the Nest app?

A: The new Nest Doorbell (2nd gen, wired) needs to be powered by wires delivering 16 - 24 V AC, and at least 10 VA (in North America) or 12 - 24 V AC and at least 8 VA (in Europe). While the Nest doorbell can replace most wired doorbells, there are some cases where the doorbell system, including doorbell wires, either doesn’t give enough power or gives too much power. In some homes, you may need to upgrade your transformer to meet the doorbell's higher power requirements. However, some doorbell systems are incompatible like a traditional doorbell system that uses very little power, so it’s important to make sure that the wires and transformer (power supply) meets the required amount of power so the doorbell can record videos.
Q: What is the difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 models?
A: Hello there, AEES! Thanks for your interest. There are key differences between the first and second versions of the Nest Doorbell (wired). The new version has intelligent alerts, Activity Zones and three hours of event history included without a subscription. It also has a taller field of view, and can store video on the device during Wi-Fi outages. A: it will ring on the same chime box. the google home app allows you to label locations of your doorbells so you will only need the one app. Just label the locations of the doorbell and it will show them both on the app.
A: Great question. Most mechanical chimes should be compatible with the Nest doorbell wired 2nd gen. Make sure you have connected the chime connector if it’s required. A: I found an extnsion piece online that allowed me to mount the doorbell in the existing space with the existing wiring. The extension piece fit in the 1 inch space that I had also.

Love this doorbell camera!
I’ve had the Google Nest Wired Doorbell Camera for a while now, and I honestly love it. The video quality is super clear — both day and night — and I really like how quickly it sends notifications to my phone. I can see exactly who’s at my door, even if they don’t ring the bell.
