Vernon Handley - Works of the Sea [COMPACT DISCS] date 02/13/2007

Allusions, an album of evocative chamber works, showcases the expressive and interpretive abilities of contemporary composition and features works by five composers Christopher Dietz's La fleur du ciel, Kjell Magne Andersen's Suite for Oboe and Piano, Sarah Wallin Huff's Anima Mechanicae Soul of the Machine, Timothy Edwards' the Conjecture, and Vera Ivonova's Three Studies in Uneven Meters. Enhanced content includes liner notes and study scores.

If Elgar now dominates our view of British music in the period that bridges the 19th and 20th centuries, his contemporaries Charles Villers and Hubert Parry were distinguished and influential established figures in both composing and teaching. This collections showcases the lighter, if often wistful, side of Elgar's art - including the Serenade variety of orchestral and choral works by both.
