About this product
The concerto occupies a central place in the works of leading Belgian composer, pianist and conductor, Robert Groslot. His experience as a renowned soloist informs the instrumental possibilities and playing techniques of his compositions, which are notable for their refined and rich contrast. Conforming to his preference for one-movement structures, the Violin Concerto is laced with scintillating motifs both ethereal and playful as well as complex moods ranging from the dream-like and magical to the dark and violent. The Concerto for Orchestra is a meticulously structured and dazzlingly evocative showpiece. The prizewinning violinist Joanna Kurkowicz enjoys an active and versatile career as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and concertmaster. She has performed worldwide in such venues as Carnegie Hall in New York, Jordan Hall in Boston, and the Grosse Saal in Salzburg, and has appeared as a soloist with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra and the Polish National Radio Orchestra in Katowice, among others. She currently serves as concertmaster to the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra.

Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 . Wu Fei and Abigail Washburn's duo project is as unlikely, perhaps, as it was inevitable-a manifest sonic consequence of politics and vibrations commingling across continents. There is a directness in the musical duo that makes it such a good vehicle for melodic conversations between close friends who obviously listen to each other with an athletic respect matched by their respective virtuosity.

Robert Groslot's significant contribution to the concerto genre is explored here in works that emphasize enjoyment in performance, and precision in sonorities and structure. The Cello Concerto includes a musical joke, whereby the soloist 'quarrels' with the concert master, only for the argument to be quelled by one of the percussionists. Robert Groslot made his name as a concert pianist, winning both the Alessandro Casagrande and Queen Elizabeth competitions in the 1970s. He has since developed a career as conductor, multimedia artist and composer. This world premiere recording of three significant concertos follows on from a in August 2018 with his Violin Concerto and Concerto for Orchestra (8.573808), also performed with the Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by the composer. This was highly acclaimed by the critics, summed up by Fanfare as 'highly rewarding music... Groslot possesses a musical voice well worth hearing and clearly aims to entertain his listeners.
