About this product
Composer Guillaume Roussel has written the original music for the film Couleurs de l'incendie directed by and featuring Clovis Cornillac with co-stars Léa Drucker, Benoît Poelvoorde, Alice Isaaz and Olivier Gourmet. The film is based on the novel by Pierre Lemaitre, who received the Prix Goncourt for his book Au revoir là-haut. The movie adaptation of the latter by Albert Dupontel in 2017 (See You Up There) was a huge success and won several Césars. In Couleurs de l'Incendie, Fanny Ardant plays the role of a heroic opera singer; her singing voice in the film is that of the soprano Sandrine Piau. In addition to the music by Guillaume Roussel (who, among other things, wrote the soundtrack for Cédric Jimenez's film Bac Nord), we hear Verdi, Saint-Saëns and other classics from the French repertoire, including Plaisir d'amour.

The tongue-in-cheek album title refers to Ry Cooder's musical inspiration, the Tex Mex style his electric guitar slides across. His evocation of roots music has him take American hits such as InchStand By MeInch and InchHe'll Have to GoInch and fuse the sounds of Americana with those of neighboring cultures.

We know Satie as a loner, but it is less well known that Satie had also been in love. He had a brief and stormy affair with the painter Suzanne Valadon. The portrait she made of him is on the cover of this album, as pianist Guillaume Coppola has conceived it as an intimate portrait of the composer, Inchone masked by a veil of modesty or provocation and which lies between antique and oriental inspiration, mystical phases, humour and cabaretInch. The miniature Bonjour Biqui and the motif of the Vexations possess rare allusions to Valadon and become commas between these chapters, as does Desespoir agreable, whose title alone seems to sum up Satie's life and work. This tribute is released to mark the centenary of Satie's death; whilst the famous Gymnopedies and Gnossiennes feature on the programme, the album also presents rare and infrequently recorded discoveries that testify to the richness of the works that the whimsical Satie had created.
