Guy Penson - Ceci N'est Pas Une Passacaille - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Flemish composer and harpsichordist Johan Huys (*1942) was president of the competition at the MA Festival Bruges for almost forty years. He also composed several pieces for harpsichord for this world-famous competition. His former student Guy Penson has recorded some of his teacher's harpsichord works for this new recording on PASSACAILLE. The Belgian harpsichordist, Guy Penson, studied at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent. He is a laureate of several international competitions including the Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges in 1980. Since finishing his studies, Guy Penson has gained an impressive reputation in Belgium and abroad. He has appeared as a guest-artist at the most important European festivals (France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Russia, Scandinavia), as well as in Canada and South America. As a harpsichordist he performs regularly in solo recitals, and in collaboration with many renowned orchestras.

Nata Belkin - Vivaldi & Bach / Kodaly Violoncello - SUPER-AUDIO CD [Super Audio CD (SACD)]

(SACD-HYBRID) Recorded February 2001 at the Pump house Art Gallery, Niagara on the Lake, Ontario and at the Friedman Concert Hall, Kleinburg, Ontario this features the important work of J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi and Zoltan Kodaly. Nowhere is Bach's holistic understanding of a stringed instrument more evident than in his works for violoncello solo. Bach writes completely in harmony with the natural pitch, tone quality, and pace of the violoncello. Vivaldi was progressive musically. He established the concerto form as an instrumental standard, played with the idea that the soloist was at war with the larger orchestra and using the contrasts to dramatic effect, not only between players but in speed and volume levels as well. He also pushed the envelope on violin technique, something in which he probably remained untouched until Paganini. Recorded Live, Direct-To-Master using Tube Equipment. Extraordinary Dynamic and Lifelike Sound. Fidelis Records Audiophile Master Series.
