About this product

Four years ago, Günther Groissböck, celebrated bassist at the world's most prestigious opera stages, surprised music lovers with a recording of popular Viennese songs. There was hope and expectation that a follow-up would come. Now he returns with a journey through time in the genre, from the Biedermeier period to the present day. While his 2021 album Gemischter Satz featured the Philharmonia Schrammeln, this time it's the Neue Wiener Concert Schrammeln who define the Viennese sound of the CD. It includes songs from the pen of Viennese song poet André Heller, such as InchEs is allas unhamlich leichtInch (Everything is incredibly easy) or the title track InchAnnageln kannst es net, die ZeitInch (You can't nail down time), as well as classics like Hermann Leopoldi's InchIn einem kleinen Café in HernalsInch (In a small café in Hernals), Karl Hodina's InchHerrgott aus Sta'Inch (Stony God), or traditional Viennese songs like InchWann i amal stirbInch (When I once die) and InchI hab die schönen Maderln net erfundenInch (I can't take credit for the pretty girls).Instrumental contributions from the Neue Wiener Concert Schrammeln, including original compositions by two of it's members - InchHopp Hopp GaloppInch (Helmut Thomas Stippich) and InchLeopoldina & Pedro or How Haydn's student Sigismund von Neukomm may have seen BrazilInch (Peter Havlicek) - round off this new album.

Huw Watkins - Shadow Dances - British Works for Flute - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

?For his second album for Chandos, the flute virtuoso Adam Walker explores the music of British composers with pianist Huw Watkins. Vaughan Williams's Suite de ballet was commissioned by the French flute virtuoso Louis Fleury (who had given the première of Debussy's Syrinx). The work uses eighteenth-century French dance forms, a common practice in 'neo-classical' composition. Bax's Four Pieces rescue music from an abandoned ballet originally conceived for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. Sir Lennox Berkeley's Sonatina was originally written for treble recorder; James Galway's championship of the piece made it a staple of the flute repertoire. Howard Fergusson's Three Sketches were composed intermittently over a period of twenty years. The theme of the third piece is a Hindu melody, 'Koyalinya bole ambuvan' (Cuckoos sing in the mango tree). Sonatas by York Bowen and William Alwyn complete this varied and engaging programme.

Matthias Giesen - In Te Domine Speravi - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This compilation of the greatest sacred compositions for bass and organ finds it's ideal performers in singer Gunther Groissbock and Matthias Giesen on the Bruckner Organ in St. Florian. The repertoire spans from J. S. Bach through Haydn and Mozart to Bruckner and Brahms and ends with the conclusion of the oratorio InchThe Book with Seven SealsInch. Here, two of the most powerful instruments meet, not in conflict, but complementing each other to create a sound experience of exceptional quality. Three centuries come to life in the great Basilica of St. Florian, radiating their brilliance within the unique acoustics of this exalted church. Clemens Horak, Manuel Huber and Wolfgang Vladar, all members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, complement the outstanding duo Groissbock/Giesen as instrumentalists.
