Hadley Caliman - Celebration - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Recorded at Golden State Recorders in San Francisco in 1976, this album features Hadley Caliman on tenor sax and flute, Hotep Cecil Barnard on piano, Kenny Jenkins on bass, and Brent Rampone on drums and is a vibrant and indomitable collection of modern jazz, primarily of a post-bop persuasion with a little Latin influence thrown in for good measure. Showcasing Caliman's formidable talent during a transitional period in jazz, these original compositions centre around Caliman's tenor sax, characterized by a slightly sharp yet inviting tone and fantastic phrasing. Considered as one of a two-part album set taken from his time with Catalyst Records, 'Projecting' and this album 'Celebration' encapsulate a wonderful period in this esteemed musician's career. Despite it's echoes of Coltrane, Caliman's vibrant, virile playing is distinctly his own, and captures some of the most creative years of his extensive career.

In 1965, Popular launched it's first musical special dedicated to Puerto Rican composer Rafael Hernández. This production was part of the inaugural celebration of the bank's main building, Popular Center, in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. In 1993, to commemorate Banco Popular's 100th anniversary, the financial institution continued it's traditional musical production, this time on a yearly basis. Known as Popular's music special (Puerto Rico's largest banking institution), this project is a gift that the corporation offers it's audiences to perpetuate, on CD and DVD, the musical traditions and narratives of Puerto Rico and Latin America. This collection has featured local and international artists such as Tommy Torres, Olga Tañón, Pedro Capó, Rubén Blades, Juan Luis Guerra, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Juanes, Marc Anthony, Daddy Yankee, Lucecita Benítez, Natalia Jiménez, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Kany García, Ozuna and Bad Bunny, among others. In addition to promoting traditions, the musical specials serve, through their sales, as a to support organizations and schools with music programs sponsored by Fundación Banco Popular. Popular's new musical production, InchSalsa sabor y evolución,Inch features stories from artists and music connoisseurs about how this genre has evolved and remains part of Latin culture.
