About this product
Ciacconas, Canzonas & Sonatas / Deuter, Harmonie Universelle, Nicolai / Deuter / Harmonie Universelle, Date 10/30/2012, Composer Johann Michael Nicolai, Antonio Bertali, Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, Conductor Florian Deuter, Orchestra/Ensemble Harmonie Universelle, Number of Discs 1. Only fourteen years had passed since the end of the Thirty Years' War when the musician and collector Jacob Ludwig compiled a comprehensive collection of violin music in 1662 containing contemporary works played at German courts from this period. The collection termed by experts as InchDas Partiturbuch LudwigInch was created for the culture-loving Duke August of Brunswick and his wife and was presented to him on the occasion of his 83rd birthday. It is amazing that despite the devastating effects of such a long period of war in Germany, cultural life had never come to a complete standstill, and Jacob Ludwig succeeded in discovering a whole series of musical jewels to add to his collection. The works of Das Partiturbuch Ludwig were arranged according to the number of instruments involved and include sonatas, canzonas, chaconnes and other works influenced by the modern Italian trends of this period. The volume is one of the most valuable sources north of the Alps for works displaying the technical and compositional potential of the violin whose popularity was on the rise at this time. The renowned Baroque violinist Florian Deuter and his ensemble Harmonie Universelle have compiled a selection from the 114 works included in Das Partiturbuch Ludwig which not only demonstrates the incredible variety of music from this source, but also offers listeners a broad palette of different genres and instrumental scoring.

Vivaldi La Porte Delle Muse / Deuter, Waisman, Harmonie Universelle, Vivaldi / Harmonie Universelle / Waisman, Date 01/31/2012, Composer Antonio Vivaldi, Performer Florian Deuter, Monica Waisman, Conductor Florian Deuter, Orchestra/Ensemble Harmonie Universelle, Number of Discs 1. Review InchI cannot say enough goods things about this disc and, though I'd love to spend another 500 words extolling the virtues movement-by-movement in each concerto, I simply say to you, get this and listen. There are, of course, several competing versions of these concertos, particularly by La Magnifica Comunità in the massive boxed set on Brilliant Classics 94056, or Concerto Italiano on Naïve, but to be truthful, those performances, crisp and professional as they are, do not sound like these. You won't hear Vivaldi much more creative than this, or much more creatively interpreted. This is, quite simply, a group of sheer genius.Inch FANFARE Lynn René Bayley

Corellimania / Harmonie Universelle, Corelli / Deuter / Waisman / Harmonie Universelle, Date 04/30/2013. Composer Arcangelo Corelli, Giovanni Mossi, Pietro Antonio Locatelli, Antonio Vivaldi, Orchestra/Ensemble Harmonie Universelle. Number of Discs 1. Corelli's Concerti grossi attained great fame already during his lifetime and were models for numerous European composers - especially in England, enthusiasm for his works assumed the characteristics of a true InchmaniaInch. In Rome, contemporary colleagues and critics were particularly struck by their unusually large ensembles. In contemporary sources which go into precise detail concerning the performing musicians, one also finds references to the expansion of the orchestra by two trumpets and one trombone. The otherwise well-known works of Corelli are rarely heard in this expansive, brilliant orchestration. Harmonie Universelle now aims to fill this gap with the present recording. Alongside Corelli's Concerti grossi, Op. 6 Nos. 1, 4 and 7 in the version for trumpets and trombone, other concerti grossi can be heard by Locatelli, Geminiani und Mossi, composed without exception under the influence of their model Corelli and supplemented by an unknown Double Concerto by Antonio Vivaldi. As already demonstrated in their outstanding Vivaldi recording (ACC 24266), the interpretations of Harmonie Universelle are particularly distinguished for their richly colorful continuo group, their spirited but never gruff fast movements as well as dreamily floating slow movements.
