Electro-Harmonix Op Amp Big Muff Pi Fuzz / Distortion / Sustainer Pedal. Faithful re-creation of the original late-70s Op-Amp Big Muff Pi! With original late-70s Op-Amp Big Muffs selling for exorbitant prices, Mike Matthews decided to take the power to the people and reissue the classic pedal at a price that players could afford! The circuitry of the new EHX Op-Amp Big Muff Pi —sometimes also referred to as the IC or V4 Big Muff— has been faithfully re-created while several practical enhancements have been added including a compact, die-cast chassis and true bypass switching. “The Op-Amp Big Muff was popularized by the brilliant Billy Corgan who first used it on the Smashing Pumpkins’ epic 1993 album Siamese Dream. After he was videotaped playing and talking about the reissue, Billy stated: ‘The magic’s still in the box, I can still get what I’m looking for!’” – Mike Matthews. The pedal relies on op-amps rather than transistors and three gain stages rather than four, to create its signature sound. It’s a sound that’s been described by noted Big Muff collector and historian, Kit Rae, as: “a huge, crushing Big Muff sound with more crunch… great for grungy, wall-of-sound distortion, heavy rhythm playing and heavy leads.” Product Highlights: A faithful reissue of the original classic circa 1978. The EHX Deluxe Bass Big Muff is the flagship of EHX bass fuzz and delivers enhancements to the classic Bass Big Muff Pi that are specifically tailored to the needs of the modern bass player. The sturdy foundation of the Deluxe Bass Big Muff is the thunderous tone inspired by the classic Black Russian Big Muff of the ’90s. Added to that is a Blend knob to mix back in your original tone and add definition to your low end. A Gate quiets unwanted hiss for a smooth performance. The ultimate tone-sculptor of the pedal is the Crossover section. Here the Fuzz and Dry signals are separated and run through a High Pass Filter and Low Pass Filter respectively. This creates a tone with fiery top end and a huge, thumping bottom. This is the most versatile Bass Big Muff ever! Product Highlights: Pad on the input that’s switchable between 0dB and -10dB ensures the pedal is optimized for use with both passive and active pickups. Blend allows a player to mix to taste the direct and distorted signals.
