About this product

Karl Amadeus Hartmann's opera, based upon Grimmelshausen's picaresque novel of the thirty years' war, has not been seen on stage or heard in concert in the UK. Yet it's one of the most important German operas of the 20th century; it was composed during the mid-30s, but couldn't be performed under the Nazis because of the unmistakable parallels it draws with the situation in Europe. (It was staged for the first time only in 1949.) Markus Stenz's fine performance - with an oustanding Juliane Banse as the naive shepherd boy, Simplicius, who finds himself surrounded by the horror, corruption and farce of war - was recorded in 2012 at one of Netherlands Radio's invaluable Saturday matinees, at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw. Like the BR Klassik recording of the opera from 2009, with Camilla Nylund in the title role, it uses the original version of the score, which is more unsparingly pessimistic and much more indebted to the principles of Brechtian epic theatre than the substantial revision that Hartmann made in the 1950s. Stenz and his cast capture that raw intensity very truthfully.

Lambchop - Trip - VINYL LP

In the fall of 2019, Lambchop's Kurt Wagner had a unique idea In lieu of going on what would become an economically disastrous tour, he would invite the band to Nashville to make a record as a way to provide them with similar financial support and realize something tangible in the process. Each band member was tasked with choosing one song for the band to cover, and leading the recording session to completion each day. Wagner says, InchMy idea was to see what might happen if I removed myself from the process as much as possible. In doing so, what surfaced would be elements that have always been there but maybe got overshadowed by my songwriting and approach.Inch Recorded December 2-7, 2019, at Battletapes in Nashville, TN, and produced, engineered, and mixed by Jeremy Ferguson (with the exception of InchReservationsInch which was co-mixed by Ferguson and Matthew McCaughan), TRIP sounds like a culmination of the band's older work and current work. There's a looseness and freedom that recalls their older sound mixed with a group sophistication and innovation derived through the process of playing together for so long. The title TRIP refers to the circumstances surrounding it's creation and the endeavor of InchtouringInch itself. InchIt also seems to describe a life in music and the situations we created in our life as a band over the years, Inch Wagner adds. InchIt's been a trip...Inch
