About this product
Haydn's career coincided with changes in the standard keyboard as the fortepiano, and then the pianoforte, replaced the harpsichord and clavichord. This album reflects these changes. Haydn probably wrote the charming 5 Variationen in D major for the harpsichord around the mid-1759s while the Fantasia in C major, with abundant hand crossings and effects, was intended to exploit the particular sonority of the fortepiano. In 1792 he wrote new dances for a Viennese masked ball and the Empress herself asked for keyboard arrangements which Haydn provided in the shape of the sparkling Deutsche Tanze and Menuetti. Hungarian pianist Jeno Jando has won a number of piano competitions in Hungary and abroad, including first prize at the 1973 Hungarian Piano Concours and a First Prize in the chamber music category at the Sydney International Piano Competition in 1977. He has recorded for Naxos all the piano concertos and sonatas of Mozart. Other recordings for the Naxos tag include the concertos of Grieg and Schumann as well as Rachmaninov's Second Concerto and Paganini Rhapsody and the complete piano sonatas of Haydn and Beethoven. Album Tracks 1. Fantasia (Capriccio) in C Major, Hob. XVII 4 (1789( 2. Adagio in G Major, Hob. XV 22/Ii (1794) 3. 5 Variationen in D Major, Hob. XVII 7 (C. 1750-55) 4. 12 Deutsche Tänze, Hob. The sonatas recorded here encompass almost the entirety of Hans Werner Henze's creative life. Composed in difficult conditions just after WWII, the Violin Sonata covers the broadest range of human emotions, and is in some ways a study for the extraordinary First Violin Concerto. Steeped in Italian mythology, the Solo Violin Sonata is 'a real piece of theatre,' as is the emotionally shattering Viola Sonata, written straight after the completion of the ballet Orpheus. The Violin Sonatina is drawn from Henze's children's opera Pollicino, and the two remaining miniatures are memorials for lost colleagues. Internationally acclaimed violin virtuoso Peter Sheppard Skaerved's close connection with Hans Werner Henze is well recognized, and this follows on from his recordings of Henze's First and Third Violin Concertos Inchhaving some seriously emotional meat on the bones of this traditional formInch (MusicWeb International), and the Second Violin Concerto summed up as Incha superb [album]... highly recommendedInch by Gramophone. This is the first recording to bring together Henze's solo sonatas for violin and viola, as well as the early Violin Sonata and later Violin Sonatina. Peter Sheppard Skaerved recorded the composers revised 1992 version of the Solo Violin Sonata on the Metier tag in 2000, but returns to the 1977 original for this recording, completing a deal with the composer to Inchsee who is right!Inch Album Tracks 1. In addition to some 47 keyboard sonatas, Haydn wrote a variety of other pieces including arrangements of earlier orchestral or chamber works, and dances intended for occasional use. The 10 kleine Klavierstucke (10 Little Piano Pieces) contain five symphonic movements- including the second movement from one of his most popular, No. 53 in D major, known as L'Imperiale- a single movement from a string quartet and three extracts from his witty Eszterhaza opera La vera constanza. The dance movements were popular in Vienna's many ballrooms. This is the penultimate in Jeno Jando's project of recording the complete solo piano music by Joseph Haydn.
