About this product
In this new recording the prestigious Tetzlaff Quartett presents a program of String Quartets by Franz Schubert and Joseph Haydn in exemplary performances. Praised by The New York Times for their Inchdramatic, energetic playing of clean intensityInch, the Tetzlaff Quartett is one of today's leading string quartets. Alongside their successful individual careers, Christian and Tanja Tetzlaff, Hanna Weinmeister and Elisabeth Kufferath have met since 1994 to perform several times each season in concerts that regularly receive great critical acclaim. Franz Schubert's (1797-1828) String Quartet No. 15 in G major, D. 887 was completed by the composer in 1826. It is the last work in the impressive series of String Quartets that Schubert wrote during his lifetime. In this Quartet, nearly symphonic in it's epic scale, Schubert is touching new musical landscapes after the success of his 'Rosamunde' and 'Death and the Maiden' Quartets. The String Quartet in G minor, Op. 20 No. 3 by Joseph Haydn (1732-1809), also known as 'the Father of String Quartet', was written in 1772 when Haydn was at the height of his creative powers at the Esterházy Court. During her lifetime Marianna Martines was a highly regarded composer. In 1772, for example, the English music historian Charles Burney praised her Inchvery well writtenInch compositions, her keyboard artistry as Inchmasterly,Inch and her own person as a singer who was Inchmore perfect than any singer I had ever heard.Inch Pietro Metastasio, her mentor, valued her talent and art just as very much as did Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who frequently participated in her Inchmusical evening entertainments.Inch With these evenings, which were held Inchat least once a week,Inch she exercised a considerable influence on Vienna's music life. The cantata InchDixit DominusInch after Psalm 110 represents something like this composer's visiting card. She applied for admission to the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna with it and became the first woman ever to be accepted to this elite circle of internationally renowned musicians. Although the cantata primarily bears the imprint of Italian Early Classicism, it juxtaposes contrapuntal work in the old style with galant and empfindsam elements in keeping with those times, and her instrumentation of it is richly varied and colorful. The sacred cantata InchCome le limpide ondeInch was the starting point for the present recording because it contains as a special feature two arias with an obbligato part for salterio (the Baroque forerunner of today's dulcimer). A stirring InchStorm-and-StressInch symphony by Marianna Martines rounds off this alubm.

The Beethoven pupil Ferdinand Ries always holds surprises in store for listeners. Whether considering his symphonic music, chamber works, or vocal oeuvre (a broad selection of being available on cpo), his vibrant powers of invention, formal mastery and genial talent when it came to multiple paving of his own unique paths for the musical language of his times never fails to enthuse. The concert overture probably took shape in response to specific demands arising from the development of the concert as a public event. Ries' rousing works of this genre are now rendered audible for vinyl fans! Album Tracks 1. 01. Große Festouvertüre Und Siegesmarsch, Op. 172 2. 02. Ouvertüre Zu Schillers Trauerspiel 3. 03.
