It earned the band artist to watch mentions from NME and The Observer, while selling out shows, topping radio charts and making late night TV performances here in the US. Recorded in 1971 by a 27-year-old pastorand an after school program choir, Like AShip is a stirring and powerful meditationon the wayward aftermath of the CivilRights Movement. Tracked with the helpof Chess/Cadet maestros Gene Barge, PhilUpchurch, and Richard Evans, the albumis a mix of euphoric gospel and Mayfieldesque politcal soul, with sleigh bells, handclaps, and jazzy piano stabs. Sampled byT.I., Kanye, and Khalid, Barrett createda rapturous, crossover gospel classic that'sstill wildly relevant.
