The Beat of the Brass is the tenth album by the popular 1960s instrumental group Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. The album was released on the heels of a television special by the same title (telecast April 22, 1968 over CBS). Tom Mankiewicz, who wrote the special, also provided two paragraphs of liner notes for the album. Explaining the concept behind the album, Mankiewicz writes, InchThe beat of America is more than a musical experience. It finds it's pulse and rhythms in the very life of the country the crack of a bat against a baseball, the spinning wheels and pounding machinery of a modern factory, a swinging crowd in New Orleans at Mardi Gras, a saddle twisting desperately against his rider...Inch It includes Alpert's only major vocal hit, InchThis Guy's In Love With YouInch, which became an overnight success due to it's inclusion during the special, in a sequence featuring Herb and his (first) wife, Sharon. Album Tracks 1. Monday, Monday 2. A Beautiful Friend 3. Cabaret 4. Panama 5. Belz Mein Shtetele Belz (My Home Town) 6. Talk to the Animals 7. Slick 8. She Touched Me 9. Thanks for the Memory 10. The Robin 11. This Guy's in Love with You

The song InchSpanish FleaInch, composed by Alpert's friend and fellow mariachi band leader Julius Wechter, was one of several Brass tunes that saw regular use on InchThe Dating GameInch. - The single version of InchTijuana TaxiInch had more of the bicycle-horn sound effects than the album version did. InchTijuana TaxiInch and InchSpanish FleaInch would both be reprised as part of the InchCarmenInch medley in Herb Alpert's Ninth. The B-side of the InchTaxiInch single, InchZorba the GreekInch, was edited for length and had live-concert sound effects added. S.R.O., issued in 1966, was Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass' seventh album.[1] It included work by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, as well as the band's cover of InchMameInch (from the hit musical of the same name), one of the first TJB recordings to include vocals from Alpert, as he and the group sang the song's chorus in the middle of the otherwise-instrumental rendition. Released as a single, InchMameInch reached the U.S. singles top 40, as did InchThe Work Song,Inch which featured the InchpingInch sound effect of a hammer or a pickaxe hitting rocks or other solid objects.
