Herbie and the Royalists - The Soul Of The Matter - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Vinyl LP pressing. Originally released in 1968 on the budget Saga tag, The Soul of The Matter has become a genuine cult favorite of the British late-sixties soul-pop underground. Long overlooked and pressed in modest quantities, the album quietly built a reputation among collectors as one of those rare low-budget releases where the artistry far outweighed the resources behind it. Fronted by the charismatic Herbie Hunte, whose warm and expressive vocals drive the record throughout, the Royalists blend blue-eyed soul, post-beat pop, light psychedelia and baroque flourishes into a sound both sincere and distinctive. From the infectious opener InchBaby I Love YouInch to the ambitious InchRoyal SuiteInch and the atmospheric instrumental standout InchLost Voyage,Inch the album showcases a band making inspired music with heart, energy and imagination. Despite it's humble origins, The Soul of The Matter stands today as a rediscovered gem-passed between collectors and crate-diggers for decades. Now lovingly reissued by Morgan Blue Town, this edition finally gives the album the attention and presentation it deserves. An essential addition for fans of British '60s soul, mod-era pop, and cult underground classics.

A companion piece to the 20th Anniversary reissue of Beachwood Sparks'seponymous debut album, BEACHWOOD DELUXE is a rare sonic glimpse at where the band was in 1999. Electric 12/6 string jangling guitars, sonic exploration and soft country psychedelia. The tracks are some of the only proper studio recordings to feature original guitarist/singer, the late Josh Schwartz. They were recorded by LP producer Michael Deming in Los Angeles during the group's hometown heyday before signing to Sub Pop Records and Josh leaving the band. Two of the tracks initially appeared on the April 99 Sub Pop Singles Club 7Inch but the others remained unreleased until now. An extra bonus on Beachwood Deluxe is the rare and remastered live recording from Green Bay in 2000, unearthed for the first time. This Is What It Feels Like (Unreleased 1999) Morning Light (Unreleased)Canyon Ride 1999 Windows 65 (Sub Pop Singles Club)Midsummer Daydream (Sub Pop Singles Club)We'd Love To See You (Japan Bonus track 2000)Singing Butterfly* The Calming Seas* Canyon Ride* Ballad Of Never Rider/Silver Morning After* Old Sea Miner* Something I Don't Recognize* New County* Wake Up Little Susie* *Live In Green Bay, WI May 11 2001
