Back when he waxed these four sides for the fledgling Harlem-based Atlas tag in 1951, Robert InchH-BombInch Ferguson's lusty shout could easily have been mistaken for that of leather-lunged jump blues luminary Wynonie Harris, who's InchGood Rockin' TonightInch and InchAll She Wants to Do Is RockInch brought him stardom and paced the R&B charts in the late '40s. H-Bomb was not just any imitator however, he proved through explosive live performances that he was a force to be reckoned with, as these rare early sides indicate; blurring the lines between rhythm and blues and early rock n' roll. Classic recordings, newly re-mastered.

The father of the jazz tenor saxophone, Coleman Hawkins influenced a whole generation of young sax giants and his influence is still strong today, some forty years after his passing. The rare sessions presented here were recorded in late 1953 for Chicago's Parrot tag, and although the information on these sessions are sketchy, it is believed that Hawk was accompanied by Leo Blevins on guitar and Les Strand on organ, with an unknown vocal group on a few of the selections. The drummer is thought to be Buddy Smith. These 12 sides for Parrot are one of his biggest bodies of work from this period, as it was a time of lowered exposure for Hawkins. Regardless of who accompanied Hawk on these recordings, his playing proves that he was in fine form. All selections newly remastered. Album Tracks 1. Goin' Down Home 2. I'll Follow My Secret Heart 3. On My Way 4. I'll Tell You Later 5. What a Difference a Day Makes 6. Last Stop 7. Should I 8. Flight Eleven 9. Modern Fantasy 10. Confessin' 11. September Song 12. They Can't Take That Away from Me
